๐”๐Œ ๐๐ฎ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐”๐ฉ๐๐š๐ญ๐ž: BENRC of CebuTech Argao has continued to make significant contributions to utility model (UM) development, particularly in food-related innovations. As of the 2026 midyear report, the Center has secured six certificates of registration, 26 notices of publication, and 6 new utility model applications.

These achievements bring BENRC's total utility model-related outputs for 2026 so far to 38, demonstrating the Center's sustained commitment to innovation, research, and intellectual property generation.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: CTU Vice President for Production, Extension, and Resource Generation (PERG), Dr. Rosein A. Ancheta Jr., together with Ar. Andrew M. Peรฑalosa, Creative Consultant from the TESDA Office of the Director General, and two other TESDA staff members, visited the Biodiversity, Environment, and Natural Resources Research Center (BENRC) of Cebu Technological University (CTU)โ€“Argao Campus on 29 July 2026.

The delegation was accompanied by CTU-Argao Campus officials led by Campus Director Eingilbert C. Benolirao and Administrative Officer V Charissa Jane S. Sambola. Upon arriving at the BENRC Building, they were warmly welcomed by University Director for Research and Development (UDRD) Hemres M. Alburo and BENRC Director Rosalyn P. Alburo.

During the visit, the guests toured BENRC's research facilities and laboratories, where they were introduced to the Center's ongoing initiatives in biodiversity, environmental, and natural resources research. They also sampled an innovative food product currently undergoing sensory evaluation as part of the Center's research and development activities.

The visit served as an opportunity to explore potential areas for collaboration between TESDA and CTU-BENRC.

๐๐”๐๐‹๐ˆ๐‚๐€๐“๐ˆ๐Ž๐ ๐€๐‹๐„๐‘๐“: The Biodiversity, Environment and Natural Resources Research Center (BENRC) has published a new research article entitled โ€œDiversity and Abundance of Spiders (Araneae) in Different Habitats in Mt. Lantoy, Cebu, Philippinesโ€ in the ASEAN Journal of Scientific and Technological Reports (AJSTR), a Scopus-indexed journal based in Thailand.

The article forms part of AJSTRโ€™s special issue released on 11 July 2026. The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on spider diversity and abundance across different habitats in Mt. Lantoy, highlighting the ecological importance of this area in Cebu, Philippines.

๐ˆ๐ ๐๐‡๐Ž๐“๐Ž๐’ - ๐ƒ๐€๐˜ ๐Ÿ: As part of its continued commitment to community empowerment through sustainable food innovation, the CTU RISE with Breadfruit and Other Untapped Food Plants extension project of the Biodiversity, Environment, and Natural Resources Research Center (BENRC) expanded its reach to the Municipality of Alcoy, Cebu, marking its third project implementation site for 2026.

Conducted on July 13โ€“14, 2026, the two-day food processing training brought together members of women's organizations, farmers' associations, and other community stakeholders. The training introduced participants to the potential of untapped food plants while demonstrating practical methods for transforming locally abundant crops into value-added food products.

With a particular focus on green onions, new cocoyam, and chayote, the activity aimed to reduce postharvest losses, encourage the productive use of surplus harvests, and create opportunities for livelihood development through food processing.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: A two-day food processing training program under the โ€œCTU RISE with Breadfruit and Other Untapped Food Plantsโ€ extension project concluded at Alcoy, Cebu on July 14, 2026, with a certificate-awarding ceremony for the participants.

The event was attended by BENRC Director Rosalyn P. Alburo, along with three municipal councilors, and a representative from the Municipal Agriculture Office.

The project, led by the BENRC, focuses on expanding the utilization of underused crops through local extension training.

Women trainees let their voices be heard during the closing ceremony of BENRC's two-day CTU RISE with Breadfruit and Other Untapped Food Plants extension project on July 14, 2026, in the Municipality of Alcoy, Cebu.

Beyond expressing their gratitude for being among the selected trainees, the participants also shared how valuable the knowledge they gained during the training had been. They expressed amazement at learning how surplus and underutilized food plants can be transformed into value-added food products.

The participants also voiced their aspirations for continued support from their LGU and partner institutions, including Cebu Technological University, as they pursue future endeavors, particularly in food processing as a promising livelihood opportunity.

Their message was clear: women are not only eager to learn but are also ready to lead, innovate, and transform their newly acquired knowledge into sustainable community-based enterprises.
