Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) of the University of Negros OccidentalโRecoletos (UNO-R) earned the recognition of Most Outstanding Local Chapter during the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Academic Week Celebration (AWC) 2026, held at Acacia Hotel Bacolod on July 12.
With the theme โEMPOWERED,โ the celebration gathered accounting students from different schools and highlighted their skills, knowledge, and creativity through various academic and non-academic competitions.
The event commenced with the Academic and Non-Academic Events at National UniversityโBacolod, where participants showcased their knowledge, skills, and creativity through various competitions. The academic category featured the Intermediate and Advanced Categories, while the non-academic events included โNarrative Behind Ledgersโ โ Essay Writing/Pagsulat ng Sanaysay, โReal Accounts: Stories in Focusโ โ Video Making Competition, and โThe Palette of Professionโ โ Poster Making Contest, where Ellice Samantha Salgado placed third
The celebration continued with a motorcade assembly at the NGC Grounds, followed by the official motorcade and registration at Acacia Hotel for the opening ceremony. The program featured a procession of different sectors and schools, the Oath of CPAs led by Dr. Grace Lopena, CPA, welcome remarks, and messages from various guests and officials, including the presence of Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya.
Participants also attended the seminar titled โFuture-Ready Accountants: Using Artificial Intelligence Responsibly and Ethically,โ led by Dr. Henry S. Pahilago, CPA, which focused on the role of artificial intelligence in the future of the accounting profession.
Overall, JPIAโs achievement reflects their hard work, teamwork, and dedication. Congratulations, JPIA!
