ALUMNI ARCHIVE Featuring ARMINA JOY MARAVILLA

From the classrooms of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation – Bacolod to the vast oceans of the world, this Lacsonian alumna proves that courage, discipline, and determination can take you anywhere. In an industry where resilience and strength are essential, she continues to rise above challenges and represent the true spirit of a proud Lacsonian.

Her journey reflects not only professional growth but also the passion and perseverance required to thrive in the global maritime industry. Through every voyage, she carries with her the values and training she gained from JBLCF–Bacolod, inspiring others to pursue their dreams no matter how vast the horizon may seem.

📌 How did John B. Lacson prepare you for life on board and to become a global leader and professional?

“John B. Lacson Bacolod prepared me for life on board by shaping not only my skills but also my character. The school instilled discipline through strict routines, demanding training, and high standards that reflect the real expectations at sea. It strengthened my patience by teaching me that progress requires time, effort, and resilience.

JBLCF - Bacolod also equipped me with the technical knowledge, professionalism, and mental toughness needed to face the challenges of maritime life. More than anything, it molded my mindset, teaching me to stay focused, responsible, and committed no matter how rough the waters ahead.

My preparation also involves actively seeking opportunities to engage with diverse cultures and global environments. My talent in flair bartending allows me to connect with people and create memorable experiences onboard.

Becoming a global professional does not happen overnight. In my first year as a seafarer, I realized that the journey is both challenging and rewarding. Life at sea requires hard work, long contracts, time away from family, and strong emotional resilience. Success depends on a strong work ethic and a willingness to continuously learn.

Whenever you step into a new country or culture, you recognize both your limitations and your growth. You may not know everything, but you learn that you have the capacity, skills, and determination to make things work.”

- Armina Joy Maravilla

👏 Join us in celebrating her inspiring journey and the pride she brings to JBLCF–Bacolod across the seas.

Day 1 Highlights
April 14, 2026

Today, ideas came alive as we officially kicked off the Research Festival 2026!

From the vibrant Student Research and Innovation Showcase to the creative sparks ignited in Research in a Meme, Digital Journal Cover Design, and Digital Promotional Video Contest, our students proved that research is not just about inquiry, but also about imagination and impact. Every presentation, every concept, and every creative output reflects one powerful truth: Research thrives when passion meets innovation.

As we embrace this year’s theme, “Harnessing Wisdom: Advancing Research Across Waves of Change,” today’s events remind us that the future is being shaped right here—through curiosity, collaboration, and creativity.

Stay tuned as we continue to celebrate excellence in research tomorrow in the 15th Research Colloquium & Sharing of Innovative Best Practices.
