UNO-R Chemical Engineering Delegation Completes UMN Sustainability Immersion Program 2026 in Indonesia 🇵🇭🇮🇩
The University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos (UNO-R) successfully participated in the UMN Sustainability Immersion Program 2026, held from July 19–24, 2026 at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara(UMN) in Tangerang, Indonesia.
The international program was preceded by a week of online preparatory sessions covering Indonesian language and culture, sustainable design, sustainable business, energy management and audit, and disaster communication, and concluded with a week dedicated to report preparation and reflection on the participants’ learning experiences.
The five-day immersion officially commenced with opening ceremonies, a campus tour, and cultural orientation activities that welcomed delegates from various countries. On the second day, participants visited Bandung Village, where they learned to play the angklung, took part in traditional Indonesian games, experienced batik-making, and enjoyed authentic Indonesian cuisine.
Day three featured sustainability workshops and collaborative learning sessions focused on disaster communication, sustainable design, energy management, and sustainability initiatives, providing participants with valuable insights into sustainable development practices.
The cultural immersion continued on the fourth day with a visit to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), where delegates explored museums and cultural exhibits that showcased Indonesia’s rich history, traditions, and diversity.
The program concluded on the fifth day with colorful closing ceremonies highlighted by cultural performances and a national costume presentation, celebrating the friendships, intercultural understanding, and global connections fostered throughout the week.
Representing the UNO-R College of Engineering were Chemical Engineering Program Head Engr. Ashraf R. Khater and Chemical Engineering student Mara Khleia Ortega, while the College of Information Technology was represented by Information Technology Program Head Mr. Joshua E. Dela Cruz and Computer Science student Elaine Casipe. Their participation is aligned with UNO-R’s continued commitment to internationalization, sustainability education, and developing globally competent professionals through meaningful academic and cultural exchange opportunities.
