18 April 2026 | The University of the East (UE) Reserve Officersโ€™ Training Corps (ROTC) Unit conducted its 14th Training Day for Military Science 2, School Year 2025โ€“2026 under the leadership of COL FERNANDO C ENGCOT INF (GSC) PA, the Commandant.

The training day commenced with the assembly of MS-2 cadets at the TYK Lobby for attendance and initial formation under the supervision of C/1LT Rowena C Lavapie 2CL. Thereafter, the cadets proceeded to the UE Caloocan Multi-Purpose Hall to begin their lecture on Squad Tactical Operations and Battle Drills.

The lecture was delivered by SSg Jommel G Tacata (Inf) PA discussing the fundamental principles and coordinated actions required in small-unit tactical operations. The session emphasized the importance of teamwork, communication, and proper ex*****on of battle drills in responding to various combat situations. Through the discussion of squad movements and tactical procedures, the cadets gained a deeper understanding of the discipline and coordination necessary to effectively operate as a unit in the field.

Following the lecture, the Donning of Ranks Ceremony formally commenced as the parents, guardians, and designated sponsors of the cadets arrived to witness the recognition of the newly commissioned Cadet 2nd Lieutenants. Shortly thereafter, COL FERNANDO C ENGCOT INF (GSC) PAโ€”the Commandantโ€”together with the Assistant Commandant, CPT Allan Rey D Salvado OS PA (Res), and the Admin NCO TSg Germel G Conmigo Jr (MI) PA, were formally welcomed to begin the ceremony.

The reading of orders was then conducted by TSg Germel G Conmigo Jr (MI) PA, during which the names of the cadets who had successfully completed the required training were announced, officially recognizing them as the newly commissioned Cadet 2nd Lieutenants of the unit.

Afterwards, the parents and guardians of each cadet stepped forward as the Commandant and Assistant Commandant handed over the rank insignias to be placed on the newly appointed officers. This symbolic act marked the recognition of the cadetsโ€™ dedication, perseverance, and successful completion of the training requirements needed to assume greater responsibilities within the corps.

An inspirational message was then delivered by the Commandant, emphasizing that the rank and title bestowed upon the newly commissioned officers carry not only honor, but also the responsibility to lead with integrity, discipline, and accountability. He further reminded the cadets that leadership is reflected through service, example, and commitment, encouraging them to uphold the standards and values expected of an officer as they take on their new roles within the unit.

The ceremony was then concluded, marking the end of the 14th Training Day with no untoward incidents.

In Honor of Courage and Sacrifice

On this day of remembrance, we salute the honorable legacy of valor by remembering the brave Filipino and American soldiers who stood side by side in Bataan, choosing courage over fear and sacrifice over surrender despite overwhelming odds. Their strength and unity remind us what it truly means to unite and fight for freedom. May we carry their spirit within usโ€”standing firm in our values, loving our country, and protecting the freedom they gave their lives for.

The training day commenced with the assembly of MS-2 cadets at the TYK Lobby for attendance and initial formation under the supervision of C/1LT Rowena C Lavapie 2CL. Thereafter, the cadets proceeded to their respective designations in preparation for the upcoming Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI).

At the UE Caloocan Field, cadets conducted drills and ceremonies focusing on manual of arms using rifles under the guidance of SSg Ariel DS Sales PA (Res), C/MAJ Janeiro V Del Rio 1CL, C/CPT Ean Lakhsmi P Chua 1CL, C/1LT Jose Gabriel L Dizon 2CL, C/1LT Denver N Bozar 2CL, and C/1LT Jhon Lloyd D Tino 2CL, reinforcing precision, discipline, and coordination in formation.

Meanwhile, M16 assembling and disassembling was conducted under the guidance of Sgt Rodrigo V Vigo PA (Res), who demonstrated the proper procedures and techniques, emphasizing speed and accuracy in handling the rifle. Through guided instruction and repetition, the cadets were able to effectively perform the assembly and disassembly, demonstrating improved familiarity and confidence in weapon handling.

Simultaneously, Basic Life Support (BLS) training was conducted under the guidance of SMS Ricardo M Manuel Sr PA (Res) and Sgt Berchmen H Hidlao (MC) PA (Res). The session covered essential life-saving procedures, including proper bandaging, safety precautions, and appropriate responses to various medical emergencies to ensure the well-being of patients.

Building on these tactical and medical skills, the designated cadets under the map reading category were guided through navigation exercises. Under the supervision of TSg Reymond B Gregorio (Inf) PA and C/1LT Arjeeley T Arnaiz 2CL, cadets learned how to use a compass, graphic training aids (GTA), and other tools to accurately locate positions on a map, enhancing their field orientation and situational awareness.

Following the practical exercises, a review session for the comprehensive exam component of RAATI was conducted under the supervision of C/1LT Zackari S Gollayan 2CL together with the designated Cadet Officers, reinforcing key concepts and ensuring the cadets fully grasped each lesson.

After the RAATI practices, the cadets proceeded to the Engineering Building to take their midterm examinations. Attendance was then conducted prior to dismissal, marking the end of the 11th training day with no untoward incidents reported.
