The 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐇𝐀𝐙 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭, held on 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, at 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥, 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐚, continued to advance collaborative efforts in digital innovation for natural hazard preparedness and resilience. Building on the momentum of the first forum, the event gathered representatives from government agencies, academic institutions, industry partners, and community stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and promote innovative approaches in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM).

Centered on fostering stronger networks and research collaborations, the event highlighted the growing importance of digital technologies and interdisciplinary cooperation in addressing natural hazards and improving community resilience. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on emerging technologies, research initiatives, and strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing hazard preparedness, mitigation, and response systems.

The networking event also served as a platform for participants to exchange ideas, explore opportunities for joint projects, and reinforce commitments toward innovation-driven DRRM initiatives. Through collaborative dialogue and knowledge sharing, stakeholders reaffirmed their shared vision of developing safer, smarter, and more resilient communities through digital transformation and sustainable partnerships.

The Research Services Office (RSO), in collaboration with the College of Engineering (CoE) successfully conducted the seminar titled “Bridging the Gap between Geomatics, DRR-CCA, Resilience, and Social Innovations” on April 18, 2026, at the TBI, UC Legarda Campus.

The whole-day event, held from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in a hybrid format, served as a culminating academic engagement for students of the Master of Science in Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction (MSGeoDRR) program. It highlighted the students’ research competencies and emphasized interdisciplinary approaches in addressing pressing disaster-related challenges.

A key component of the seminar was the presentation of research proposals by MSGeoDRR students to various target agencies and stakeholders. These presentations provided a platform for constructive dialogue, enabling participants to gather insights, refine their studies, and ensure alignment with practical applications in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation (DRR-CCA).

The activity also fostered collaboration between the academe and external partners, reinforcing the university’s commitment to producing research that is both relevant and impactful to communities. Faculty members, staff, and stakeholders participated actively, contributing to meaningful discussions on resilience-building and innovative solutions.

Faculty members from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CONAHS) actively took part in the Cordillera Regional Health Research Development Consortium (CRHRDC) Regional Research Funding (RRF) 2026 Call for Proposals Orientation held on April 17, 2026 at Peer Learning 4.

The activity, organized by the Research Services Office, served as an important platform for presenting priority research areas, funding guidelines, and collaborative opportunities. It also provided participants with valuable insights into strengthening research proposals aligned with regional health priorities and development goals.

Through their participation, CONAHS faculty members reinforced their commitment to advancing health sciences research, fostering innovation, and contributing to evidence-based solutions that address pressing health concerns in the Cordillera region and beyond.

The University of the Cordilleras (UC) proudly joins 20 partner institutions in the formal establishment of the Cordillera Local Infrastructure Learning Hub (LILHub) through a Memorandum of Agreement spearheaded by Department of the Interior and Local Government-Cordillera Administrative Region on April 16.

As one of the participating higher education institutions, UC reaffirms its commitment to advancing research, innovation, and technical expertise in support of stronger infrastructure governance across the Cordillera. The LILHub aims to enhance the capacity of local government units (LGUs) in implementing the Infrastructure Audit (IA) Program—ensuring that public facilities remain safe, functional, and resilient in the face of disasters.

Together with key national agencies, professional organizations, and fellow HEIs, UC will contribute through technical assistance, research collaboration, and knowledge-sharing initiatives that promote evidence-based infrastructure planning and disaster resilience.

The College of Engineering, through the Research Services Office, organized the “Risk Communication and Data Analytics Seminar” for students under the Master of Science in Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction (MSGeoDRR) program on March 28, 2026, at the TBI, University of the Cordilleras (UC) Legarda Campus.

The seminar aimed to equip students with essential knowledge and practical insights on utilizing data analytics to support disaster risk reduction efforts and enhance communication strategies in times of crisis. As part of the program’s academic initiative, the activity brought together experts from the field to share their experiences and technical expertise relevant to current and emerging challenges in disaster management.

Distinguished speakers included Dr. Jose Maria Pangilinan, Mr. Patrick John Santiago, and Dr. Ferdinand Lawan, who delivered comprehensive discussions on risk communication frameworks, data analytics applications, and the integration of these disciplines in disaster preparedness and response. Their sessions highlighted the importance of evidence-based approaches and clear communication in minimizing risks and improving community resilience.

Participants actively engaged in the seminar through discussions and knowledge-sharing, gaining a deeper understanding of how data can be translated into actionable insights for effective risk management. The speakers also emphasized the role of emerging technologies and analytics tools in enhancing situational awareness and supporting timely decision-making.

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation and Institutional Planning, through the Research Services Office successfully conducted the second session of its Research Agenda Revisit on March 31, 2026, at Peer Learning Room 4, focusing on the active participation of non-teaching staff. The session aimed to ensure that the institution’s research priorities remain relevant, inclusive, and aligned with current organizational needs and societal demands.

The activity gathered administrative personnel from various offices, providing them with a platform to share insights, identify operational challenges, and propose researchable areas grounded in their day-to-day functions. Through guided discussions, participants contributed valuable perspectives that are often underrepresented in research planning.

Facilitators emphasized the importance of integrating non-academic viewpoints into the university’s research framework, recognizing that innovation and problem-solving extend beyond the classroom and faculty-led initiatives. The session also highlighted the role of non-teaching staff in supporting data-driven decision-making and institutional development.

As an output, the facilitators were able to generate key themes and potential research topics that reflect administrative efficiency, service delivery improvement, and organizational resilience. These contributions will be consolidated with inputs from other sessions to refine and update the university’s overall research agenda.

The successful conduct of Session 2 highlights a strong commitment to participatory and inclusive research planning, ensuring that all sectors of the academic community play a meaningful role in shaping the institution’s research direction.
