In all journeys of life, a motherโ€™s love is unparalleledโ€“ it is a constant source of unconditional care, love, and inspiration.

With deep affection, we express our appreciation to all mothers who never fail to provide boundless support to their families, especially their children.

We dedicate this day to recognizing and cherishing the efforts that have shaped us into the individuals weโ€™ve become and who we are still becoming.

Happy Motherโ€™s Day, Mom!

The Saint Louis University-Sacred Heart Medical Center (SLU-SHMC) celebrated its 49th Foundation Anniversary on 8 May 2026 with the theme, โ€œSLU-SHMC: Bridging 49 Years of Sustainable Healthcare to a Golden 50.โ€

The celebration began with a Eucharistic Celebration at the SHMC 3rd Floor Main Lobby presided by University President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, together with SLU Parish Priest and SLU Vice President for Mission and Identity Rev. Fr. Emery Ebumea Mwako, CICM, Parochial Vicar and SHMC Hospital Chaplain Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Enjang Pranatal, CICM, and Rev. Fr. Frans Fandy Palinoan.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Sales stated, โ€œIt (the foundation anniversary) is not just a celebration of time. It is a celebration of a mission that has been lived faithfully day by day.โ€ He further addressed how the hospital staff, in line with the gospel, constantly practice love in action through their work, just as Jesus Christ did.

The inauguration of SLU-SHMCโ€™s new facilities and equipment then proceeded. Among these were the ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—ข๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฅ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—บ (๐—ข๐—ฅ), ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ข๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—›๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฒ, a milestone that reflects our continuing commitment to healing, innovation, and compassionate care specifically for heart and lung surgeries. Reflecting on the recent inauguration, Fr. Sales said, โ€œThese wards are dedicated to providing excellent care, dignity, and compassionate support to our indigent patients, ensuring that quality healthcare reaches those who need it most.โ€

Afterward, the Foundation Day Program at the Fr. Theophile Verbist Hall began.

On behalf of Medical Center Chief Dr. Paul Adlai B. Quitquit, Hospital Administrator Dr. Myrna Morallos-Espiritu gave the welcome remarks. She remarked, โ€œAs we move forward to our golden jubilee, let us continue bridging the past and future with innovation, sustainability, and above all, a heart that truly cares.โ€

The program featured intermission numbers by the resident doctors and staff from the various units of SLU-SHMC.

Furthermore, the 1st Clinical InnovatiOlympics Awards of SLU-SHMC was then spearheaded by the SHMC Total Quality Management Committee. It aimed to bridge daily practice challenges with evidence-based quality improvement initiatives. The following initiatives were awarded:

To formally close the program, Dr. Bacani said, โ€œA hospital, much like a human body, is a masterpiece of interconnected parts working together for one purpose, and that is lifeโ€ฆLike a human body, growth never truly ends. We continue to evolve, adapt, strengthen, and heal. And as we prepare to celebrate this golden anniversary, we also prepare for the next heartbeat, the next chapter, and the next 50 years.โ€

SLU-SHMCโ€™s commemoration of its 49th Foundation Anniversary showcased the hospital staff's excellence through their innovations and quality improvement projects in the 1st Clinical InnovatiOlympics Awards. The celebration further elaborated on how SLU-SHMC has stood the test of time through the hospital staffโ€™s commitment and dedication to providing quality healthcare.

The program aligned with advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Fostering Work and Growth Opportunities (SDG 8), and Strengthening Partnerships Towards Shared Goals (SDG 17).

WURI evaluates higher education institutionsโ€™ real or tangible contributions to industry and society, highlighting innovative education, research, and engagement to society. Across 24 categories, WURIโ€™s system measures innovation targets and methods to gauge an institution's creative contribution to societal advancement. The ranking highlights higher education institutions that excel in innovative approaches, inspiring advancements across academic and societal landscapes.

A core pillar of the WURI framework is its emphasis on industrial application and ethical responsibility. It places a high premium on social responsibility, ethics, and integrity, ensuring that academic success is measured by its contribution to the public good rather than just individual achievement.

Adhering to WURIโ€™s forward-looking and collaborative approach in inspiring continuous progress and to the call to quality Catholic education rooted in Missio et Excellentia, SLU remains constant in valuing its ongoing innovation efforts while fostering an environment of mutual learning in an ever-evolving academic landscape.

Such initiatives also affirm United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Decent Work), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).

After a year-long hiatus, the Department of Psychology of Saint Louis University's (SLU) School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) marked a powerful return to the Psychological Association of the Philippines Junior Affiliates (PAPJA) Convention 2026, held on 27 April 2026 at the SMX Convention Center and 28 April at De La Salle University, Manila. The comeback was both symbolic and significant, as the department re-established its presence on the national stage with a series of strong performances across major competitions and events.

In the Interschool Psychology Quiz Bee, the SLU team delivered an outstanding performance, securing 7th place out of 95 schools and universities nationwide.

A historic milestone was achieved by Trans & Dance, the departmentโ€™s Transcendance dance team, which reached the finals of the national dance competition for the first time in SLU Psychology history.

In the filmmaking competition Psyclips, the departmentโ€™s entry Namnama earned 2nd place among dozens of submissions nationwide.

On the second day of the convention at De La Salle University, Manila, four faculty members, Asher Escano Bayot, Sigrid Lianne Taccayan, Loraine C. Cerezo, and Lovan Estepa Flores, conducted simultaneous workshopsโ€”marking the largest faculty representation the department has ever sent to facilitate sessions at PAPJA.

The departmentโ€™s participation and achievements at PAPJA 2026 strongly align with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education. Through active engagement in academic competitions, creative outputs, and faculty-led workshops, the Department of Psychology demonstrates its commitment to advancing inclusive, equitable, and high-quality learning opportunities, as well as fostering excellence in psychology education and practice.

Saint Louis University (SLU) has officially been categorized as a Tier 1 institution by the Philippine Technological Council (PTC), marking a significant milestone for its engineering programs. The announcement was formalized in a letter dated 02 May 2026, addressed to University President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD.

The granting of Tier 1 status signifies that SLU has successfully met the rigorous category thresholds established for the three primary criteria of the PTC Tier Classification System (TCS). This prestigious classification was finalized following a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the Self-Tiering Assessment Report (STAR) submitted by the university as part of its application for international recognition and accreditation. This achievement covers six specific programs within the SLU School of Engineering and Architecture: Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. These programs were previously accredited by the PTC through the PTC Accreditation and Certification Board of Engineering and Technology โ€“ Engineering Accreditation Commission (PTC ACBET-EAC) in Academic Year 2018-2019, maintaining validity through 2021.

The current Tier 1 classification is officially valid for a period of six years, effective from the date of ratification by the PTC. To ensure continued excellence, the status may be extended upon the successful completion of a periodic review, which must be conducted prior to the conclusion of the six-year cycle or the end of the accreditation cycle for the universityโ€™s specific programs. This entire evaluation process was conducted under the expert recommendation of the PTC Accreditation and Certification Board for Engineering and Technology (PTC-ACBET).

The 2026 Leadership Academy of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines-Cordillera Administrative Region (CEAP-CAR) was successfully held on 27-28 April 2026 at the Fr. Francis Gevers Hall, Saint Louis University, Baguio City. Themed "Shepherds of Excellence: Leading with a Resilient Spirit and a Competent Heart," 120 school heads from member institutions in the Diocese of Baguio, the Apostolic Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe, and the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabuk, including Congregational and Family Owned Catholic Schools attended the said event.

The Most Reverend Rafael T. Cruz, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Baguio, led a solemn Eucharistic Celebration to start the event coincident with the 34th Sacerdotal Anniversary of Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD CEAP-CAR Regional Trustee. The CEAP-CAR Fathers also took part in the celebration, which provided a spiritual foundation of unity and mission for the academic leaders present.

Two main themes made up the academy's curriculum. These themes were meant to strengthen the identity of Catholic teachers. The first big topic looked at what it means to be a Catholic school leader in the Church and urged administrators to act like Jesus, the Good Shepherd, Good Steward, and Servant Leader.

The second half of the academy addressed the practical, urgent problems of current governance, which are highly complex in today's education system. Talks highlighted the important role that school leaders play in managing curriculum changes and the need to ensure students have secure places to learn. The academy also stressed the importance of maintaining high levels of professionalism and strategically incorporating Church causes, such as social justice and care for the environment, directly into schools' curricula.

In the keynote message, Fr. Sales, CICM, PhD, Regional Trustee, CEAP-CAR and President of SLU, challenged the attendees to embody the four qualities of a Catholic School leader - observation, empathy, stewardship, and resolve to form a strong foundation for leadership rooted in faith and service. He emphasized that the goal of a Catholic leader is not just efficiency or success, but the fulfillment of Godโ€™s promise of peace, justice, and dignity for all. Finally, he exhorted that a true Catholic leader works toward the vision of building communities where people feel safe, valued, and loved, and where Godโ€™s kingdom becomes more visible here on earth.

At the end of the academy, the 120 leaders made a fresh promise to return to their schools with both the strong spirit and the skilled heart they need to lead in times of change.

During the Monday Morning Rites held on 04 May 2026 at the Saint Louis University Fr. Paul Van Parijs Event Center, the University, through the SLU Office of Global Relations, Alumni Affairs and Scholarship Programs, launched Internationalization Week with a recognition ceremony honoring the Louisian community's commitment to globalization. A key milestone in Engineering education was also highlighted during the said launch.

Led by SLU President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, alongside Vice President for Academic Affairs Feline P. Espique, PhD; Vice President for Administration, Atty. Shellah Yzanne P. Merced; and Vice President for Finance Roberto M. Arguelles, PhD, academic units were each honored with a plaque of appreciation in recognition of their internationalization efforts and unwavering commitment to globalization.

The following schools were recognized for advancing internationalization: the Basic Education School (BEdS), School of Accountancy, Management, Computing and Information Studies (SAMCIS), School of Advanced Studies (SAS), School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA), School of Law (SOL), School of Medicine (SOM), School of Nursing, Allied Health, and Biological Sciences (SONAHBS), and School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA).

A highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of SLU School of Engineering and Architecture as a Philippine Technological Council (PTC) Tier 1 Engineering Institution, which is a distinction earned for offering engineering programs that meet international standards under the Washington Accord, and for demonstrating high institutional autonomy, robust quality assurance, and global competency.

Having met all category thresholds under the three-criterion Tier Classification System (TCS), the classification is valid for six years from the date of ratification by the PTC. In accordance with Washington Accord guidelines, only engineering programs offered by a Tier 1 institution and accredited by PTC will be afforded international recognition under the Accord.

Furthermore, PTC-accredited engineering programs offered by SLU SEA will also be listed in the Register of Accredited Programs of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP), further affirming their compliance with global standards in engineering education.

Aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), SLU continues to forge meaningful global connections and uphold internationally recognized standards of excellence, Internationalization Week affirms the University's enduring mission of forming globally competent, values-driven Louisians rooted in Missio et Excellentia.
