On August 21, 2026, the University of Baguio – School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) conducted Day 4 of the A.C.H.I.E.V.E.R.S. Program online via Zoom. Facilitated by 𝙈𝙧. 𝙏𝙤𝙣𝙮 𝙊𝙣𝙜 𝘽. 𝘿𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙏𝙤𝙥 2 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙮 2026 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙇𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙀𝙭𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, the learning session focused on 𝙅𝙪𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙅𝙪𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚 and 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙪𝙩𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙨 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, with the objective of strengthening the interns’ understanding of juvenile-related concerns, justice interventions, peaceful conflict resolution, and appropriate responses to crisis situations.

The session emphasized the importance of understanding 𝙟𝙪𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 by looking beyond the offense and considering the circumstances and factors that may influence a young person’s behavior. Family environment, peer influence, social pressure, stress, and neglect may contribute to behaviors that place young people in conflict with rules or the law. Understanding these factors allows future criminology professionals to recognize that addressing juvenile delinquency requires not only accountability but also appropriate guidance, intervention, and support.

The discussion further focused on 𝙟𝙪𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚, emphasizing the importance of approaches that consider the developmental needs and potential for rehabilitation of young people. Unlike a purely punitive approach, juvenile justice places importance on guidance, education, rehabilitation, and reintegration. The session highlighted that young people should be provided with opportunities to learn from their mistakes and develop into responsible members of their families and communities. Such an approach recognizes the importance of balancing accountability with rehabilitation and the protection of young people’s welfare.

The session also discussed 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙪𝙩𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 as an important approach to addressing disagreements and conflicts through peaceful and constructive means. Communication, understanding, responsibility, and fairness can help parties reach appropriate resolutions without allowing conflicts to escalate. For young people, dispute resolution can also encourage accountability and help develop their ability to communicate, understand the consequences of their actions, and resolve disagreements without resorting to violence. These principles are relevant to future criminology professionals who may encounter conflicts requiring appropriate intervention and resolution.

The discussion further highlighted 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, particularly the importance of remaining calm and maintaining control during difficult or emergency situations. When responding to a young person who is angry, distressed, or experiencing a crisis, an aggressive response may worsen the situation. Instead, appropriate communication, active listening, ensuring safety, and providing necessary assistance can help prevent escalation. The session emphasized that crisis management is not simply about imposing punishment but about protecting those involved, stabilizing the situation, and determining an appropriate response.

The review program provided an immediate academic benefit by strengthening the interns’ understanding of juvenile delinquency, juvenile justice, dispute resolution, and crisis management. The discussions equipped the interns with concepts that can help them better understand juvenile-related concerns, address conflicts through peaceful approaches, and respond appropriately to challenging situations. In the long term, these learning outcomes can contribute to the development of competent, responsible, and ethical criminology professionals capable of applying appropriate approaches in criminal justice and public safety practice.

The Criminology Enhancement Review supports 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟒 – 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, particularly target 4.4, by strengthening the interns’ knowledge, competencies, and professional skills needed for future employment and criminology practice. It also supports target 4.7 by promoting education that develops knowledge and values related to peace, non-violence, human rights, and responsible citizenship. The activity also contributes to 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟏𝟔 – 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, particularly target 16.3, by promoting the rule of law and access to justice through a deeper understanding of juvenile justice and responsible criminal justice practice; target 16.16 by developing future criminology professionals who value accountable and effective institutions; and target 16.a, by strengthening the knowledge and professional capacity of future criminologists to contribute to crime prevention, conflict management, and stronger justice institutions.

On August 15, 2026, the University of Baguio – School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) conducted Day 3 of the A.C.H.I.E.V.E.R.S. Program online via Zoom. Facilitated by 𝘿𝙧. 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙝 𝙈. 𝘿𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙤, 𝙏𝙤𝙥 6 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙡 2013 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙇𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙀𝙭𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, the learning session focused on 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝘽𝙚𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙑𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮 and 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙀𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨, with the objective of strengthening the interns’ understanding of human behavior, victimology, and the ethical responsibilities expected of future criminology and law enforcement professionals.

The session emphasized that 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙫𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨, including life experiences, environment, biology, and society. These factors can influence the development of a person’s psyche from the beginning of life, contributing to the formation of individual identity and influencing how a person understands, responds to, and exercises control over circumstances in life. The discussion also highlighted the role of 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙧, particularly through the influence of family, peers, elders, and other social groups. The values, lessons, experiences, and interactions provided by these individuals and groups can contribute to the development of a person’s attitudes and behavioral patterns. Understanding these influences enables future criminology professionals to examine human behavior and recognize circumstances that may contribute to different behavioral outcomes.

The session further discussed 𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮, emphasizing the importance of understanding victims, their experiences, and the circumstances surrounding victimization. This perspective is essential for future criminology professionals as it encourages a more informed and responsible approach to crime, victims, and the criminal justice process. By developing an understanding of both human behavior and victim experiences, the interns can better appreciate the importance of appropriate, ethical, and professional responses in criminal justice practice.

The discussion also emphasized the importance of 𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙖𝙬 𝙚𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙚. Republic Act No. 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, provides standards that help regulate the conduct of public officials and employees and promote accountability in the performance of their duties. As future Registered Criminologists, the interns were reminded of their responsibility to uphold the 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 established by the 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 (𝐏𝐑𝐁𝐂) and to maintain the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and accountability. Integrating the 𝐏𝐍𝐏 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 into their future practice can further guide them in serving the public interest responsibly and ethically.

The review program provided an immediate academic benefit by strengthening the interns’ understanding of human behavior, victimology, and professional and ethical conduct. The session also encouraged the interns to recognize the importance of ethical decision-making, accountability, and respect for individuals in the practice of criminology and law enforcement. In the long term, these learning outcomes can contribute to the development of competent, analytical, ethical, and socially responsible criminology professionals who can apply their knowledge in crime prevention, victim-centered practice, criminal justice, and public safety.

The University of Baguio – School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (UB-SCJPS) successfully conducted the Basic Youth Leadership Training (BYLT) on August 11–12, 2026, at the FGB Hall, University of Baguio, Baguio City. The two-day training was designed to prepare SCJPS interns for their succeeding deployment to different agencies by strengthening leadership, communication, conflict management, mental-health awareness, discipline, decision-making, teamwork, and career readiness. The activity brought together SCJPS interns, personnel from the 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙤𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙣 (𝙍𝙈𝙁𝘽) 15, invited resource speakers, and mental health professionals. Their participation provided the interns with practical perspectives on leadership, public safety, personal well-being, youth protection, responsible citizenship, and professional development, helping connect classroom learning with the expectations of professional public service.

The first day opened with remarks from 𝙈𝙧. 𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣 𝙅𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙥𝙝 𝙏. 𝘼𝙡𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙯, UB-SCJPS Assistant Internship Coordinator, followed by a welcome message from 𝙋𝙎𝙎𝙜 𝙈𝘾 𝙅𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙖𝙣 𝘿𝙚 𝙑𝙚𝙧𝙖. The morning session, “𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥,” facilitated by 𝙋𝙎𝙎𝙜 𝙉𝙖𝙧𝙬𝙞𝙣 𝙇. 𝙎𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣, introduced 11 attributes of a leader and emphasized that leadership is not merely about position or authority. The discussion highlighted self-awareness, responsibility, discipline, and the ability to influence others positively. Interns were encouraged to lead themselves first and to view leadership as an opportunity to empower others. The session also emphasized service, humility, accountability, and responsible decision-making. These qualities are particularly important for SCJPS interns who will soon enter professional environments where sound judgment, discipline, and ethical conduct are essential. The discussion was further connected with Mark 10:42–45, emphasizing leadership through service and responsibility. 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙩 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 was followed by discussions on interpersonal, intrapersonal, intragroup, and intergroup conflicts. Interns learned that disagreements can be managed constructively through open communication, identifying the problem, reaching out to the individuals concerned, seeking appropriate solutions, and maintaining calm and respectful interactions. These skills are valuable in helping future criminal justice professionals work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

The afternoon session, “𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝,” was facilitated by 𝙈𝙨. 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙂𝙞𝙣𝙖 𝘿. 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙨𝙤𝙡, 𝙍𝙋𝙎𝙮, Chapter Executive Manager of the Philippine Mental Health Association – Cordillera Chapter Inc. The session emphasized that mental health involves balance among the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of life. Interns were encouraged to recognize their feelings, communicate with trusted people, and seek appropriate professional support when necessary. The discussion reinforced the importance of emotional well-being and resilience when facing demanding responsibilities and professional challenges. The first day concluded with closing remarks from 𝙋𝙇𝙏 𝙍𝙪𝙗𝙮 𝙍𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝘿. 𝙋𝙚𝙨𝙖𝙨𝙚, who reminded the interns to put God first in everything they do and to carry strong values, principles, and a sense of purpose throughout their academic and professional journey.

On the second day, 𝙋𝘾𝙥𝙡. 𝘿𝙖𝙧𝙬𝙞𝙣 𝙍𝙤𝙣 𝘿. 𝙋𝙚𝙙𝙧𝙤 facilitated the 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙞-𝙄𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙡 𝘿𝙧𝙪𝙜𝙨 session, which introduced different kinds of illegal drugs and discussed factors that may contribute to youth involvement in illegal drug activities. The interns were reminded of the consequences of drug involvement and the importance of responsible choices. The session underscored that protecting young people from illegal drugs also means protecting their education, ambitions, relationships, and future. The succeeding session, “𝙉𝙤 𝙩𝙤 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣,” was discussed. It addressed youth vulnerability, prevention, critical thinking, community awareness, and protection, while introducing the RMFB and its presence in different provinces in Benguet. The discussion strengthened the interns’ awareness of the risks faced by young people and the importance of preventive and protective efforts. 𝙋𝙖𝙩. 𝙅𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙇𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝘽. 𝙒𝙖𝙙𝙬𝙖𝙙𝙖𝙣 then facilitated the discussion on the 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝘼𝙘𝙩 𝙉𝙤. 11313, the Safe Spaces Act. The session covered gender-based sexual harassment in public and private spaces, online spaces, and other forms of harassment addressed by the law. It strengthened the interns’ understanding of respect, dignity, accountability, and the shared responsibility to create safe environments. The final lecture focused on 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙪𝙞𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 and was facilitated by 𝙋𝘾𝙥𝙡. 𝙆𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙅𝙤𝙮 𝙈. 𝘽𝙞𝙢𝙪𝙮𝙖𝙜. The session introduced possible career opportunities after graduation, including pathways into the uniformed services. Interns were encouraged to identify their professional goals early and prepare through appropriate qualifications, competencies, discipline, and a strong work ethic.

The two-day program concluded with a team-building activity that emphasized patience, cooperation, communication, active listening, and following instructions before taking action. The activity reinforced that effective performance depends not only on individual ability but also on the capacity to cooperate, follow established procedures, and work toward a common objective—qualities that will be essential during agency deployment.

The Basic Youth Leadership Training provided SCJPS interns with practical knowledge and values extending beyond the classroom. The program strengthened their self-leadership, communication and conflict-management skills, mental-health awareness, drug-prevention awareness, understanding of youth protection, knowledge of the Safe Spaces Act, career readiness, teamwork, discipline, and professional responsibility. These competencies can help shape them into ethical, resilient, accountable, disciplined, and service-oriented criminal justice professionals.

The Basic Youth Leadership Training also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It supports 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟒 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, target 4.4, through the development of relevant skills for employment and professional readiness; 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟑 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 , target 3.4, through its mental-health and well-being component; and 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟓 – 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, target 5.2, through awareness of gender-based harassment and the promotion of safer spaces. It further advances 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟏𝟕 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 , target 17.17, through collaboration among UB-SCJPS, RMFB 15, the Philippine Mental Health Association – Cordillera Chapter Inc., and Salig-Dangal Class through BYLT, the interns were reminded that leadership is more than holding a position or giving instructions. It begins with leading oneself, communicating responsibly, respecting others, caring for one’s well-being, working effectively with a team, following lawful and
ethical standards, and serving with integrity.

As the interns move toward their succeeding agency deployments, the lessons from the training provide a strong foundation for them to become competent, responsible, resilient, and service-oriented future professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the fields of criminal justice and public safety and to their communities.

On August 8, 2026, the University of Baguio – School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) conducted Day 2 of the A.C.H.I.E.V.E.R.S. Program online via Zoom, engaging criminology interns in a focused academic enhancement session. Facilitated by 𝙈𝙨. 𝘿𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙥𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙤, 𝙍𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙢, the session featured 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, with the objective of strengthening the interns’ foundational knowledge of criminology and enhancing their understanding of the factors and perspectives used to explain criminal behavior.

The session provided the interns with a deeper understanding of the 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙨, particularly the active-aggressive criminal, passive-inadequate criminal, and socialized delinquent. The discussion emphasized that individuals involved in criminal behavior may exhibit different characteristics, behaviors, and circumstances. Understanding these classifications enables future criminology professionals to examine criminal behavior from a more systematic and informed perspective.

A significant portion of the session focused on 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮, particularly the biological perspective. The interns were introduced to early biological theories that attempted to explain criminal behavior through biological and physical characteristics. The discussion also covered traditional views suggesting that criminal tendencies could be inherited or influenced by genetic factors. Examining these theories allowed the interns to understand how criminological thought developed and how explanations of criminal behavior have evolved over time.

The review program provided an immediate academic benefit to all interns by strengthening their understanding of criminal classifications, criminal etiology, and theories of crime causation. It also encouraged critical thinking by allowing the interns to examine criminal behavior through different theoretical perspectives and distinguish historical criminological concepts from contemporary approaches. In the long term, these learning outcomes can contribute to the development of competent, analytical, and ethical criminology professionals who can apply criminological knowledge in crime prevention, criminal justice practice, and public safety.

The Criminology Enhancement Review supports 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟒 – 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, particularly Target 4.7, by providing competency-based learning experiences to criminology interns that strengthen their knowledge, critical thinking, and professional values relevant to criminology and criminal justice practice. On August 1, 2026, the University of Baguio – School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) conducted Day 1 of the A.C.H.I.E.V.E.R.S. Program online via Zoom Meeting. The session, led by 𝙈𝙨. 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙝 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙉𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙨, 𝙍𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙢, featured 𝘾𝙊𝙍𝙍-𝙄𝙉𝙎𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏: 𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙉𝙤𝙣-𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨. It aimed to strengthen the academic competence of criminology interns by providing an in-depth understanding of correctional administration, rehabilitation programs, and therapeutic interventions essential to the Philippine correctional system.

The session focused on the principles and practices of institutional and non-institutional corrections, the role of community-based rehabilitation, and therapeutic modalities that support the reintegration of persons deprived of liberty into society. Through the lecture, the interns gained updated knowledge of correctional policies, rehabilitation strategies, and the responsibilities of future correctional professionals in promoting public safety and restorative justice.

The activity provided immediate benefits by enhancing the interns' understanding of correctional administration, rehabilitation, and therapeutic approaches, enabling them to relate theoretical concepts to contemporary correctional practice. In the long term, the knowledge acquired is expected to contribute to the development of competent, ethical, and service-oriented criminology graduates who are prepared to support effective correctional management, offender rehabilitation, and community reintegration within the Philippine Criminal Justice System.

On July 31, 2026, the University of Baguio – School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS), successfully conducted the Parents Orientation for Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Bachelor of Forensic Science interns together with their parents. The orientation strengthened collaboration among the Class Salig-Dangal, parents, 𝙈𝙧. 𝙄𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙡 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨 𝘼. 𝙁𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙯, Internship Coordinator, 𝙈𝙧. 𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣 𝙅𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙥𝙝 𝙏. 𝘼𝙡𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙯, Assistant Internship Coordinator, 𝘿𝙧. 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙩 𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙠 𝙁. 𝙏𝙖𝙙-𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙣, Bachelor of Forensic Science Program Chairperson, emphasizing the importance of shared responsibility in ensuring a productive and meaningful experiential learning experience.

Through discussions by 𝙈𝙧. 𝙄𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙡 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨 𝘼. 𝙁𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙯, UB SCJPS Internship Coordinator, on internship policies, workplace conduct, documentation requirements, and safety protocols, interns gained a clearer understanding of their roles and responsibilities before deployment. The orientation also invited the parents to actively participate in their children's professional development and emphasized the University's efforts to nurture the students' all-around growth and the importance of communication among all stakeholders.

The program enhanced students' readiness for workplace challenges by promoting professionalism, discipline, accountability, and ethical decision-making. Beyond preparing interns for their immediate field training, the activity contributes to the long-term development of competent criminology and forensic science graduates who are committed to public service, the administration of justice, and community safety.

𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐒 𝐒𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐆-𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐋 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐒 𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐂𝐐𝐁 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐁𝐀𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐒𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 | 𝐒𝐍𝐀𝐏𝐒

From July 27–29, 2026, the University of Baguio – School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) successfully conducted the 𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐝𝐠𝐞: 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 (𝐂𝐐𝐁) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩, equipping forensic and criminology interns with essential tactical knowledge, operational skills, and leadership competencies.

The three-day training featured lectures on lawful arrest, use of force, combat marksmanship, tactical movement, and Close Quarters Battle (CQB), alongside hands-on demonstrations by the PNP SWAT Baguio Team. Interns also gained exposure to tactical equipment, operational procedures, and technology that supports modern policing.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏 featured lectures by 𝙋𝘾𝙥𝙡. 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙯𝙚𝙧 𝙏. 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙨 on lawful arrest, the duties of arresting officers, the Use of Force Continuum, proper handcuffing procedures, and the fundamentals of marksmanship. These sessions equipped the interns with essential legal knowledge and tactical skills, emphasizing professionalism, accountability, and the proper application of force in law enforcement. 𝙋𝘾𝙈𝙎 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙤 𝘽𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙖 introduced the BCPO View Baguio App, demonstrating how technology enhances modern policing through real-time traffic updates, emergency hotlines, public safety advisories, tourist information, and citizen feedback. The session helped interns understand how digital tools improve police operations, strengthen community engagement, and support efficient and responsive public service.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐 focused on tactical movement and operational coordination under the guidance of 𝙋𝙎𝙈𝙎. 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝘿. 𝘽𝙖𝙙-𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙋𝙎𝙎𝙜. 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙜𝙮 𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙢 𝙂. 𝘽𝙞𝙖𝙙𝙤 𝙅𝙧. The interns practiced proper firearm positioning, tactical movement techniques, weapon control, communication, and team coordination in simulated operational scenarios. These exercises enhanced their ability to move safely and effectively as a unit, make sound decisions under pressure, and maintain situational awareness in dynamic environments. By emphasizing discipline, accountability, and teamwork, the training prepared the interns to respond more efficiently to real-life law enforcement operations while reinforcing the importance of coordinated actions in ensuring officer and public safety.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟑 emphasized practical tactical operations through demonstrations led by 𝙋𝙎𝙈𝙎. 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝘿. 𝘽𝙖𝙙-𝙖𝙮, and the PNP SWAT Baguio Team. Participants were introduced to various tactical equipment, including fi****ms, ammunition, ballistic shields, breaching rams, sledgehammers, bolt cutters, ladders, and rescue stretchers, allowing them to become familiar with the tools used during law enforcement operations. A tactical film viewing reinforced operational procedures and the guiding principle, "𝙉𝙤 𝙏𝙖𝙥, 𝙉𝙤 𝙂𝙤”, emphasizing the importance of proper protective equipment, risk assessment, and operational preparedness. The practical demonstrations and assessments enabled the interns to apply the knowledge and skills they had learned throughout the training, strengthening their confidence, decision-making, teamwork, and readiness to perform effectively in real-world tactical and emergency response situations.

The activity concluded with inspirational messages from the PNP SWAT Baguio Team and expressions of gratitude from 𝙈𝙧. 𝙄𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙡 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨 𝘼. 𝙁𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙯, UB SCJPS Internship Coordinator and 𝘿𝙧. 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙩 𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙠 𝙁. 𝙏𝙖𝙙-𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙣, UB SCJPS Program Chair through this initiative, interns enhanced their operational competence, professionalism, and commitment to public service. The partnership between the UB SCJPS, the Baguio City Police Office, and the PNP SWAT Baguio Team reflects a shared commitment to producing competent, ethical, and mission-ready future law enforcement professionals.

The program supports 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟒 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 particularly target 4.4 by providing experiential and competency-based learning that equips students with relevant technical, tactical, and professional skills essential for future careers in law enforcement. It also advances 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟏𝟔 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, particularly target 16.6 and 16.a promoting lawful and ethical policing practices, responsible use of force, operational preparedness, and institutional capacity-building for effective, accountable, and professional public safety service. The program reinforces 𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟏𝟕 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 , particularly target 17.17 through the collaborative efforts of the University of Baguio, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), and the PNP SWAT Baguio Team in delivering quality training, mentorship, and practical learning opportunities that prepare students for responsible service in the criminal justice profession.
