Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) continues to strengthen its research portfolio as another study authored by College President Dr. Renato G. Reyes and faculty-researcher Dr. Perfecto S. Ramos Jr. gains publication in a Scopus-indexed journal, reflecting the Collegeโ€™s sustained commitment to research and innovation.

The study, โ€œPhytostabilization Ability of the Rice Elite Lines in Cadmium-Contaminated Paddy Soil,โ€ was authored by Dr. Reyes and Dr. Ramos Jr., Assistant Professor I from the School of Agricultural Sciences, together with co-authors Dr. Sofronio P. Kalaw and Dr. Oliver E. Manangkil.

The research examined selected rice elite lines grown in cadmium-contaminated soils and identified a rice line with promising potential to reduce cadmium accumulation in grains, supporting future rice breeding efforts and safer, more sustainable agricultural practices.

The publication marks another milestone in ASCOTโ€™s continuing efforts to produce impactful research that contributes to scientific advancement and addresses real-world challenges.

Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) continues to contribute to scientific research through a newly published international study co-authored by College President Dr. Renato G. Reyes together with researchers Mark Kevin S. Lopez, Dr. Sofronio P. Kalaw, Rich Milton R. Dulay, and Angeles M. De Leon.

Published in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Science and Technology, the study explored a unique fungal species called Xylaria papulis and examined its possible health-related properties under different laboratory conditions.

The researchers found that the fungus contains natural compounds with antioxidant properties and showed initial potential for future biomedical and health-related studies. The study also highlights how fungi may serve as sustainable sources of useful bioactive compounds that could contribute to future scientific and technological innovations.

Beyond his responsibilities as ASCOT President, Dr. Reyes continues to actively lead scientific research initiatives, operate his own laboratory, and contribute to international publicationsโ€”demonstrating his continued commitment to advancing mushroom science, innovation, and research-driven education.
