REPOST from ASCOT - Extension and Rural Development

The School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), in partnership with the Extension and Rural Development Unit, conducted the Training on ItikPINAS Production and Management on May 15, 2026, at the covered court of ASCOT Bazal Campus for selected community beneficiaries. The one-day activity gathered 34 participants and aimed to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in sustainable duck production as an additional livelihood opportunity.

The training featured technical sessions led by Ms. Eden Joy V. Manalo on ItikPINAS duck production; Dr. Marilyn R. Ora on feeding and nutrition, egg production management, and value-adding; and Dr. Riosahlie Y. Madrid on duck health and disease management. Participants also engaged in discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities covering proper housing, feeding, and sustainable farming practices.

To complement the learning sessions, participants visited the Itik housing facility at ASCOT Bazal Campus for actual exposure to duck management practices. The activity was also attended by Extension and Rural Development Director Ms. Glenda N. Gines, reaffirming ASCOT’s commitment to empowering communities through sustainable agriculture and livelihood initiatives.

𝗔𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗧 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝗱-𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗜𝗦𝗢 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁

May 22, 2026 — Aurora State College of Technology convened key officials, deans, directors, and unit heads on for the opening meeting of its Mid-Year Internal Quality Audit for the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System at Bulwagang Sen. Edgardo J. Angara and via Zoom.

Organized by the college’s Internal Audit Unit, the activity aimed to strengthen institutional systems through collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

In his message, ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes emphasized that auditors should be viewed as partners in institutional development rather than individuals tasked solely with identifying faults.

“Ang auditors ay partners, hindi lang basta naghahanap ng mali—tinutulungan din nila tayong maiwasan ang pagkakamali sa ating mga ginagawa,” Reyes said, expressing hope that the institution would continue achieving positive audit results.

During the meeting, Quality Assurance Unit Head Kristine F. Galam presented the assigned auditors and process owners, clarifying that the audit would focus on evaluating systems and processes rather than individuals.

Meanwhile, Internal Audit Unit Head Rafaelito A. Minoza outlined the objectives of the audit, which include assessing the effectiveness of the Quality Management System, ensuring proper documentation, and identifying areas for improvement.

An open forum followed, allowing participants to raise concerns and clarify audit-related matters.

Closing the program, Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Antonio F. Marzan underscored the importance of collective participation in sustaining quality systems across the institution. “Sa mga ganitong audit, mahalaga ang partisipasyon at kooperasyon ng lahat—tumingin tayo sa mga dapat pang pagbutihin, hindi sa mga pagkakamali,” he said.

Through the activity, ASCOT reaffirmed its commitment to building a culture of shared responsibility and institutional excellence anchored on quality assurance principles.

REPOST from ASCOT - Extension and Rural Development

Through collaboration and the sharing of expertise, Aurora’s coconut farmers gained practical skills in farm enterprise management, financial literacy, value addition, record keeping, and food safety during the Training on Farm Business School (FBS) for Coconut conducted by ATI–RTC III in partnership with ASCOT.

ASCOT experts served as resource persons throughout the training, equipping participants with practical tools and knowledge to transform coconut farming into a more productive, sustainable, and market-oriented enterprise.

Beyond enhancing livelihoods, the initiative reflects the continuing commitment of ASCOT and ATI–RTC III to empower local communities and advance inclusive agricultural development—helping build a stronger, more resilient, and economically empowered farming sector in Aurora.

As part of Open Gov Week 2026, the 3rd leg of the ASCOT ACCESS Caravan will take place simultaneously on May 22, 2026 at the Esteves and Zabali Campuses, bringing essential student support services directly to the ASCOT community.

At Esteves Campus (Casiguran), students may access Psychological Testing and Medical Assessments to support their academic journey and overall well-being.

At Zabali Campus, graduating students and alumni are invited to join the Pre-Employment Seminar designed to help strengthen career readiness and prepare for opportunities beyond the campus.

The Office of Student Affairs and Services will also remain open in line with the celebration, providing Requests for Certifications and Basic Health Services.

Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) continues to contribute to scientific research through a newly published international study co-authored by College President Dr. Renato G. Reyes together with researchers Mark Kevin S. Lopez, Dr. Sofronio P. Kalaw, Rich Milton R. Dulay, and Angeles M. De Leon.

Published in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Science and Technology, the study explored a unique fungal species called Xylaria papulis and examined its possible health-related properties under different laboratory conditions.

The researchers found that the fungus contains natural compounds with antioxidant properties and showed initial potential for future biomedical and health-related studies. The study also highlights how fungi may serve as sustainable sources of useful bioactive compounds that could contribute to future scientific and technological innovations.

Beyond his responsibilities as ASCOT President, Dr. Reyes continues to actively lead scientific research initiatives, operate his own laboratory, and contribute to international publications—demonstrating his continued commitment to advancing mushroom science, innovation, and research-driven education.
