𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | CHED-RO VI ON-SITE MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF ASU GRADUATE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Aklan State University welcomed the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VI (CHED-RO VI) Monitoring and Evaluation Team on October 21, 2026, for the on-site evaluation of the university’s Graduate Teacher Education Programs at the ASU Library AVR in Banga, Aklan.

The visit provided an opportunity to review the university’s graduate programs and assess their compliance with established standards for higher education. It also supports ASU’s continuing efforts to strengthen its academic offerings and ensure that its graduate programs remain relevant to the needs of educators and the education sector.

Through this process, ASU continues to work toward providing quality graduate education that equips teachers and education professionals with the knowledge and skills needed in
their respective fields.

Aklan State University (ASU) presented updates on the progress of establishing the Silk Innovation Center in Aklan during the 5th SEDA Pilipinas Consortium Meeting, sharing the university’s ongoing efforts to advance the development of the silk industry in the province.

The presentation provided the Consortium with a clearer picture of the project’s progress and helped ensure that the initiative remains aligned with the SEDA Pilipinas roadmap.

Through this initiative, ASU continues to contribute to the development of silk innovation in Aklan, supporting research, collaboration, and opportunities for local industry growth.

Aklan State University, led by University President Dr. Jeffrey A. Clarin, participated in the 5th SEDA Pilipinas Consortium Meeting and 7th Silk Summit on October 21, 2026, at Forest Wing, Camp John Hay, Baguio City.

Joining Dr. Clarin were Dr. Julie Ann A. Salido, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation, and Dr. Michael T. Ibisate, Director of Extension Services.

The gathering brought together partner institutions and stakeholders to discuss updates on the SEDA Pilipinas roadmap, collaborative research and development initiatives, regional council support, and international linkages. At the same time, the 7th Silk Summit highlighted continuing efforts to advance the Philippine silk industry.

Through its participation, ASU strengthens its engagement in collaborative research, extension, and innovation initiatives that support industry development, sustainable livelihoods, and opportunities for local communities. The University's involvement reflects its commitment to working with partner institutions toward a more sustainable and competitive silk industry in the Philippines.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), under its current leadership, reaffirmed that it does not tolerate irregularities in the use of public funds and has intensified monitoring of scholarship transactions, including Audit Observation Memorandum (AOMs) issued by the Commission on Audit (COA) before 2025.

CHED clarifies that the ₱941.87 million in scholarship transactions cited in the The Daily Tribune article, “CoA Flags ₱941.87M in CHED Scholarship Irregularities, Citing Fund Mismanagement,” published on October 11, 2026, represents cumulative balances involving transactions dating as far back as 2019 and should be understood within this broader timeline.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | FUSC LEADERSHIP TRAINING 2026

The Federation of University Student Councils (FUSC) of Aklan State University commenced its Leadership Training 2026 on October 15 at the ASU Review Center in Banga, Aklan, carrying the theme “Pundasyon: Strengthening Foundations of Integrity, Service, and Excellence in Student Leadership.”

The day opened with an Integrity Walk, a meaningful start that placed integrity at the heart of leadership—not merely as a principle to uphold, but as a standard to live by in every decision, responsibility, and act of service.

University President Dr. Jeffrey A. Clarin delivered the inspirational message, while Hon. Cristal Key T. Tayco, FUSC President, welcomed the participants. Representatives from the Office of the Ombudsman Regional Office VI also joined the training as resource speakers, sharing insights on ethical leadership, integrity, and the responsibilities of student leaders in upholding accountability in their respective organizations.

The first day’s sessions further explored the legal and institutional foundations of student governance, parliamentary procedures, and the role of service in leadership. Together, these discussions challenged student leaders to look beyond their positions and recognize the values, discipline, and responsibility that meaningful leadership demands.

Through this Leadership Training, FUSC seeks to cultivate student leaders whose strength lies not only in their ability to lead, but also in the integrity of their actions, the sincerity of their service, and the excellence they bring to their responsibilities.

Clarin, along with other University officials, participates in the Regional Policy Conference on Future-Ready Higher Education and the 20th AIMS Annual Review Meeting, held October 14 to 16, 2026, at Sotogrande Hotel, Iloilo City, Philippines.

Held as part of CHED x SEAMEO RIHED Higher Education Week, the conference highlights the partnership between the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED) in advancing regional cooperation and strengthening higher education across Southeast Asia. The initiative brings together higher education leaders and policymakers to exchange insights and explore strategies for building future-ready universities.

With discussions centered on leadership, innovation, sustainability, and regional cooperation, the gathering provides a platform for institutions to share perspectives on keeping higher education responsive to changing demands while creating meaningful opportunities for learners and communities.
