Stories from our Latin Honor Graduates #7: Marriz G. Dela Cruz

"The College of Arts and Social Sciences played a huge role in helping me reach this milestone in my academic journey. BAEL gave me opportunities to grow not only academically, but also emotionally and personally. Throughout the years, I learned that the program is not just about English—it is also about understanding people, communication, culture, and life itself. The course exposed us to different fields and experiences that helped me discover my strengths and abilities. Through reporting, presentations, performances, and other activities, I learned how to step outside my comfort zone and become more confident in expressing myself.

The situational-type exams challenged my critical thinking skills, while learning foreign languages opened my mind to different cultures and perspectives. At first, public speaking and reporting made me nervous, but as time went by, I slowly overcame my fears. I am also deeply grateful to the professors in the department for being supportive and encouraging throughout my journey. Their guidance and motivation helped me continue despite the challenges I faced as a working student. CASS also helped me discover passions and skills that I never thought I had, such as editing, photography, videography, communication, and performing arts, which I know will help me in my future career and endeavors.

During my stay at CASS, I grew a lot as both a student and a person. When I first entered college, I was very shy and afraid to show my talents and skills. I had stage fright and anxiety when speaking in front of people, but through constant reporting, presentations, and activities, I slowly became more confident and expressive.

This course taught me resilience, discipline, patience, and responsibility. As a working student, balancing academics and work was not easy, but those experiences helped me mature and become more hardworking. CASS also helped me improve my communication skills, critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and professionalism. More than academic knowledge, the program taught me valuable life lessons that I will carry even after graduation.

To the current and future BAEL students, always remember that this program is more than just English. BAEL will challenge your mindset, creativity, communication skills, and confidence in ways you never expected. There will be moments when you feel pressured, exhausted, or doubtful of yourself, but do not let fear or the opinions of others stop you from pursuing what truly makes you happy.

Believe in yourself and do not be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Take risks, value every lesson and experience, and trust the process. There may be sleepless nights and sacrifices along the way, but everything will eventually be worth it. I can proudly say that I never regretted choosing BAEL because this program helped shape me into a stronger, more confident, and more capable person."

"The College of Arts and Social Sciences helped me a lot in reaching this important milestone in my academic journey. CASS helped me to become more confident and responsible. One of my motivations in reaching this milestone is our dearest instructors. They shared their lessons, experiences, and guidance that helped me understand my subjects better. During my stay at CASS, I also faced challenges, and sometimes I felt tired because of pressure and sleepless nights, but I still managed to trust myself because everything was for my goals and dreams in life.

During my stay at CASS, I learned to become a more responsible and hardworking person. One of the biggest challenges I experienced was dealing with pressure and self-doubt, especially during difficult subjects, projects, and deadlines. Sometimes I felt nervous and unsure of myself, but I learned to stay positive and continue trying. I overcame these challenges by studying harder, listening to advice from my teachers, and believing in myself. Don’t ever underestimate yourself.

To all BAEL students and future BAEL students, always believe in yourself. Honestly, BAEL was only my second choice before, and at first, I was unsure if this program was really for me. I even doubted myself and wondered if I could survive this course. But as time passed, I learned to appreciate and love the program because of the experiences, lessons, and people I met along the way, especially all the instructors. Do not compare your progress to others because everyone has their own journey. BAEL was only my second choice before, but look at me now, I graduated with Latin honors. If I was able to do it despite all the challenges and doubts, you can do it too."

"The College of Arts and Social Sciences was not just a college for me; it became a place that shaped me during some of the most difficult and uncertain years of my life. There were so many moments when I felt pressured and exhausted, but CASS pushed me to keep moving forward. Eventually, I realized that pressure was not there to destroy me; it was there to help me grow. Looking back now that I have graduated, I feel sad but also grateful because every challenge, every lesson, and every experience led me to this milestone that once only felt like a dream.

When I started my journey at CASS, I was full of self-doubt and kept questioning myself, asking, “Is this really the right path?” “What if I fail?” “Saan ako pupulutin after graduation?” and “What if I cannot meet my family’s expectations?”

But somehow, our professors at CASS always knew exactly what students like me needed to hear. Through their lessons, advice, and encouragement, they slowly helped me see my worth and potential. As the years passed, I learned that growth is painful, but it is also beautiful. CASS not only helped me earn a degree, but it also taught me lessons that I will carry for the rest of my life.

To the BAEL students and future BAEL students, do not be discouraged and never stop believing in yourself. There will be moments when you will question your abilities, your choices, and even your dreams, but keep going anyway. Follow your dreams because they will eventually lead you to the path meant for you."

Stories from our Latin Honor Graduates #4: Mark Antony R. Bugtong

"I am grateful that I became part of the College of Arts and Social Sciences. During my four years at CASS, my instructors taught me so many lessons not only academically but also personally. They helped shape me into the person I am today. Every lesson and piece of advice they shared with us is something I truly carry with me.

Before, I was not that confident speaking in front of many people or expressing myself during class discussions. But through the guidance, encouragement, and support of my instructors, I slowly gained confidence in myself and learned how to communicate better in front of a class.

The College of Arts and Social Sciences also gave me opportunities to grow outside the classroom. I was able to represent our institution twice in CARASUC, which became one of the most memorable experiences in my college journey. I also joined different organizations such as BCAS, INABEL Publication, Language Club, and The Technocrat. Through these organizations, I learned many things, developed my skills, met amazing people, and became more active and responsible as a student. At the same time, I learned how to balance my academic responsibilities and extracurricular activities. Managing both helped me become more disciplined, hardworking, and committed to everything that I do.

The College of Arts and Social Sciences became more than just a college for me. It became a place where I discovered my strengths, improved myself, and prepared for this milestone in my academic journey. Because of the experiences and support I received from the College of Arts and Social Sciences, I was able to overcome challenges and achieve my goals with confidence.

Entering the College of Arts and Social Sciences is something I am truly proud of because it helped shape me into the person I am today. During my college journey, I experienced many struggles, especially with transportation and allowance. There were times when I would wake up very early just to catch a tricycle so I could arrive at school on time. Sometimes, there were no available rides, and I had no choice but to wait or ride with anyone available just to get to school.

Even though those challenges were difficult, they did not stop me from continuing my studies. Instead, they motivated me to work harder and stay focused on my goals. During my third year in college, I told myself that I was already close to achieving my dreams, so I continued to persevere, study hard, and give importance to my education.

In my fourth year, I decided to stay in a boarding house so I could focus more on my studies and avoid being late for classes. Because of that decision, I was able to manage my time better and focus more on my homework, projects, and other school responsibilities.

Throughout my stay at the College of Arts and Social Sciences, I grew not only as a student but also as a person and future professional. I became more hardworking, disciplined, confident, and determined in life. I also learned the value of perseverance, faith, and believing in myself despite the challenges I faced. Those experiences became lessons that I will always carry with me in the future.

To my dear BAEL students, always believe in yourselves and in your capabilities because you can do it. No matter what your age is, it should never be a hindrance to achieving your dreams and finishing your studies. There will be many challenges along the way, and you may feel tired, pressured, or even doubt yourself at times, but do not give up. Keep going and continue fighting for your goals because, in the end, all your hard work and sacrifices will be worth it.

Enjoy your college journey as you learn and grow from every experience. Do not be afraid to make mistakes because they will help you become stronger and wiser. Always stay humble, work hard, and trust the process. Most importantly, never lose faith in yourself and in God.

To the future BAEL students, welcome to a journey that will help shape you into a better person. Being a BAEL student is not always easy, but it is meaningful and fulfilling. You will learn many lessons not only inside the classroom but also in life. Reaching this milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the unique environment the college fosters. The professors here don’t just teach from a syllabus; they challenge you to think critically, question assumptions, and look at the world through a broader, more empathetic lens. Whether it was through rigorous academic debates, late-night research grinds, or the constant encouragement from mentors who genuinely believed in my potential, CASS provided the safety net that helped me in moments when I failed, learned, and ultimately succeeded. It gave me the resources to sharpen my mind and the community to keep me grounded when the workload felt overwhelming.

If I look back at the person I was when I first walked through the CASS doors, I would barely recognize them. As a student, I evolved from a rote memorizer into a critical thinker who prioritizes asking the right questions over just having the right answers. As a student, immersing myself in the different subjects of my course taught me deep empathy, active listening, and open-mindedness toward diverse perspectives. As a professional, CASS replaced my stage fright with confidence, teaching me to communicate clearly, accept criticism gracefully, and lead teams adaptively. Ultimately, your time at CASS prepared you for the real world by teaching you how to navigate complex human dynamics, not just textbooks.

"The College of Arts and Social Sciences became a huge part of my journey toward this milestone. CASS not only helped me academically, but it also helped me grow emotionally and mentally through the guidance of our instructors and professors. There were challenging activities and meaningful experiences, and I learned to become more disciplined, hardworking, and resilient. There were many sleepless nights, pressures, and moments of self-doubt, but the CASS family reminded me that growth comes with sacrifices. This achievement is not only about grades, but it is a reflection of perseverance, prayers, and all the lessons I gained throughout my stay at CASS.

During my 4 years at the College of Arts and Social Sciences, I became more confident, responsible, and determined. I entered college unsure of myself, but through presentations, reports, research, and different challenges, I learned how to express myself and believe in my abilities. CASS taught me not only academic knowledge but also important values like patience, humility, and perseverance. The struggles I experienced helped me become stronger and prepared me to face the real world as a future professional.

To all BAEL students and future BAEL students, never let other people discourage you just because our program is non-board. A board exam never measures your worth and your future. Many people may say that BAEL is only for those who did not pass the entrance exam, but that is not true at all. Let me remind you that this does not define the quality of the students within this program. As someone who graduated with Latin honors, I can proudly say that I passed the entrance exam and still chose BAEL because I believed in the program and in what it could help me become. Choosing BAEL was never a “last option” for me; it was a decision rooted in passion, purpose, and growth. So, stand tall, believe in your abilities, and never let anyone make you feel less because of the program you chose. One day, your achievements will speak louder than their judgments."

"From the moment I enrolled in the BA in English Language program, CASS helped me learn how to express my ideas clearly, stand by my work, and face problems with determination. Through hard work and dedication, I was able to graduate with Latin honors—a milestone I could not have achieved without the guidance and support I received here. The professors and instructors did more than teach; they guided us through lessons and gave life advice that helped me grow as a student and as a person. Their support and example of professionalism strengthened my values and encouraged me to do better.

When I enrolled in BAEL as my chosen program, some people questioned my decision because I passed the entrance exam. I just smiled and trusted my choice, because I knew this program would improve my skills and prepare me for a career. That trust proved right. Through coursework, class discussions, and writing assignments, I developed critical thinking, clearer communication, and practical skills. It taught me discipline, time management, and attention to detail—skills that are important in any workplace.

My growth did not stop in the classroom. The most life-changing experience for me was my On-the-Job Training at the PRC Regional Office 1 in Rosales, Pangasinan. Being assigned outside Abra was an opportunity I will always be grateful for. At the PRC office, I was not treated just as a student; I was treated as a coworker. Working daily with experienced professionals has let me observe and practice workplace manners, professionalism, and honesty. I learned how to communicate well with coworkers, follow procedures, and take responsibility for my tasks. These lessons were learned through real practice, talking with professionals, receiving feedback, and making decisions under pressure. This experience helped me grow much faster in ways classroom learning alone could not.

Because of CASS, I became more confident, flexible, and ready for the demands of the working world. The college offered a caring environment and mentors who pushed students to improve both academically and personally. It was a place where theory met practice, and I learned how to turn classroom knowledge into job skills.

To my fellow BAEL students, don't let doubts stop you. Believe in yourself and stay strong. Step outside your comfort zone; that is where the best learning happens. Keep learning, keep growing, and keep finding your strengths. When it is time for your OJT, I strongly encourage you to accept opportunities outside the province if possible. Working in different places will widen your skills, open your view, and speed up your professional growth.
