The University of Abra (UA) celebrates another significant achievement as 100 out of its 121 examinees successfully passed the September 2026 Social Workers Licensure Examination (SWLE).

UA recorded an institutional passing rate of 82.64%, surpassing the national passing rate of 76.09%. The University’s first-time takers posted an 82.35% passing rate, while its retakers achieved an impressive 100% passing rate.

This outstanding performance reflects the dedication, perseverance, and hard work of the examinees, together with the unwavering support of their families, faculty members, review lecturers, and the entire University community.

More than passing an examination, this achievement marks the beginning of a greater responsibility to uphold the values and principles of the social work profession and to serve individuals, families, groups, and communities with competence, compassion, and integrity.

Congratulations to our 100 newly Registered Social Workers! May you carry the name of the University of Abra with pride as you begin your journey of transforming lives and advancing social justice.

𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐨 “𝑩𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒚” 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐉𝐫., the recently elected 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, formally took his Oath of Office as the 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐛𝐫𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 (𝐁𝐎𝐑) yesterday, Aug. 18, 2026. The oath-taking was administered by CHED Commissioner and UA BOR Chair-designate, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐲𝐫𝐧𝐚 𝐐. 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢 prior to the 1st Meeting of the UA BOR at the CHED Central Office.

As president, Mayor Donato, being a BOR member, will bring his leadership and experience to strengthen alumni engagement and institutional development.

A new role, a renewed commitment, and a stronger voice for the alumni community.

Abra now has its first state university.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved the compliance of the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) with the requirements for conversion into the University of Abra, making it the province’s first and only state university following its substantial compliance with the requirements for university status.

The milestone supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s emphasis on raising the quality of Philippine higher education. ASIST’s conversion followed CHED’s validation of its compliance with established university standards, underscoring that institutional growth must be matched by demonstrated academic and organizational capacity.

For learners, this provides greater assurance that the University of Abra’s expanded role is built on established standards of quality.

Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology

A new set of officers will lead the Alumni Federation following the successful conduct of its recently concluded election, held on June 27, 2026 at the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology, Bangued Campus with Mayor Artemio C. Donato Jr. elected as President.

Joining Mayor Donato Jr. in the newly elected officers are 𝗦𝗣. 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗕. 𝗔𝗯𝗮𝘆𝗮 as Vice President, 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗕. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗼 as Secretary, 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗕. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼 as Treasurer, 𝗘𝗱𝗻𝗮 𝗦. 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀 as Auditor, 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹 𝗦. 𝗕𝗮ñ𝗲𝘇 as Business Manager, and 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀 as Public Relations Officer (PRO).

The newly elected officers are expected to strengthen the relationship between the alumni and their alma mater by implementing programs that encourage alumni involvement, support institutional initiatives, and create opportunities that will benefit both graduates and current students.

President-elect Mayor Donato Jr. expressed his gratitude for the confidence and trust reposed in the new officers. He emphasized that the federation will work collectively to promote unity among alumni, enhance engagement through meaningful activities, and support projects that contribute to the continued growth and development of the institution.

With a renewed sense of purpose, the ASIST Alumni Federation looks forward to a productive term under its new leadership, guided by a shared vision of service, excellence, and stronger alumni collaboration.

ASIST Makes Historic Debut in THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026

In a historic milestone for higher education in the region, the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) has successfully strengthened its global presence through participating, for the very first time, in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings.

The THE Sustainability Impact Ratings are global performance tables that assess higher education institutions based on their dedication and real-world contributions to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By evaluating universities across the essential areas of research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching, these ratings provide immense value. They highlight how institutions act as catalysts for positive societal transformation and environmental harmony, steering the global community toward a balanced and prosperous future.

For the 2026 edition, a highly competitive and vast field of 1,646 universities and schools from 116 countries and territories were evaluated. In its magnificent debut, ASIST achieved an overall global ranking of 1001–1500. This position reflects the institution's profound dedication to global citizenship and sustainable progress.

Among the 17 individual SDGs evaluated, ASIST earned outstanding recognition and secured its highest marks in three vital areas:

• Gender Equality (SDG 5): Promoting inclusivity, balanced representation, and equal opportunities for everyone within the academic community.

• No Poverty (SDG 1): Creating pathways for socio-economic advancement through accessible education and targeted community empowerment programs.

• Zero Hunger (SDG 2): Advancing agricultural innovation, food security initiatives, and nutritional advocacy to support the local population.

This monumental achievement is a beautiful reflection of unified dedication. Every individual within the ASIST community—from the visionary leadership and brilliant faculty members to the hardworking support staff and enthusiastic students—shares the honor of this success.
