Warmest congratulations to our 132 passers for the August-September 2026 Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination!

Posting a strong 98.51% institutional passing rate that widely surpassed the 76.74% national rate, the university is recognized as the 8th Top-Performing School among institutions with 100 or more examinees and at least 85% passing rate.

Our 132 passers are among the 28,652 new nurses who passed the examination

𝗠𝗠𝗦𝗨 𝗕𝗦𝗡 𝗜𝗩 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮

Two Level IV Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) demonstrated exemplary nursing skills and innovation on the international stage after earning Excellence Awards at the 2nd Smart Nursing Skills Invitational Competition held at the Kunlun Campus of Guangxi Health Science College in Nanning City, Guangxi, China, on September 14 to 16, 2026.

Elysha Jyka T. Chua and Raj Kervie C. Coniguen represented MMSU at the 2026 ASEAN-Oriented Medical and Health Vocational Education Forum, Smart Nursing Skills Invitational Competition, and Academic Conference, where they showcased their competence in delivering safe, responsive, and evidence-based nursing care.

As part of the competition, the students were given 25 minutes to prepare, including gathering and organizing all necessary materials from the supply room of GXHSC. They were then allotted one hour to showcase their nursing procedures.

Integrating the nursing process into their performance, Chua and Coniguen developed their clinical scenario on the spot and worked together to deliver appropriate care based on the patient's condition. Their scenario focused on priority interventions for myocardial infarction, allowing them to demonstrate their abilities in an emergency situation.

The two student nurses clearly explained and skillfully performed several critical procedures, including 5-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring, oxygenation, intravenous (IV) therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and defibrillation. Beyond technical proficiency, their presentation highlighted the integral role of nurses in family involvement, emphasizing the importance of communication, education, support, and collaboration with the patient's family during critical situations.

The achievement marks another significant milestone for MMSU nursing students competing abroad. Chua and Coniguen have made history and helped pave the way for greater accomplishments among nursing students on the international stage, demonstrating that the University's nursing education continues to prepare students to meet global standards of healthcare practice.

The students were accompanied by their nursing instructors, Dr. Roel M. Beljamin, who served as coach and one of the judges, and Prof. Marianne Hazel B. Abad, as well as College of Health Sciences Dean Dr. Cheryll Didi Nellie N. Obra and MMSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Aris Reynold V. Cajigal.

Meanwhile, they have also attended the academic conference with the theme, “Innovation-Driven and AI-Empowered: Boost High-Quality China-ASEAN and the Belt and Road Initiative Vocational Education Cooperation via High-Level Medical and Health Vocational Education Going Global.”

Dr. Cajigal also served as a resource speaker at the academic conference, where he discussed medical and health vocational education international cooperation. In line with the conference, the forum featured discussions on the progress report and achievement showcase of the cooperating units of the China-Philippines Institute of Modern Craftsmanship of Household Service.

Moreover, MMSU was recognized as a formal member of the China-ASEAN Digital Intelligent Healthcare, Elderly Care and Nursing Industry-Education Integration Consortium, making the University one of its Chairperson Units.

The Philippine delegates have also gained a firsthand look at the institution’s facilities, learning environments, and innovative approaches to medical and health education. The tour gave the delegation an opportunity to experience the breadth of what GXHSC has to offer as an academic institution. From its learning facilities and skills laboratories to its various spaces dedicated to healthcare education and training, the visit provided the MMSU delegates with valuable insights into how institutions can create meaningful and immersive learning experiences for future healthcare professionals.

The Excellence Awards earned by Chua and Coniguen stand as a testament to the dedication of MMSU's nursing students, faculty, and mentors in advancing nursing education and competencies beyond the Philippines. Their performance in China not only brought distinction to the University but also opened new pathways for MMSU nursing students to participate in and excel in international academic and skills internships and competitions.

𝐌𝐌𝐒𝐔 𝐍𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐂𝐒𝐔–𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐇𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐘

The Mariano Marcos State University–College of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing warmly welcomed the delegation from the Cagayan State University–Carig Campus College of Nursing for a benchmarking activity held on September 10, 2026, at the Nursing Arts Laboratory.

The activity provided a meaningful avenue for sharing MMSU’s best practices in the planning, supervision, coordination, and implementation of hospital and community-related learning experiences. Discussions also highlighted clinical teaching pedagogies, Nursing Arts Laboratory management, and the assessment, computation, implementation, and utilization of Related Learning Experience fees.

The program featured presentations from faculty members and administrators of both institutions, followed by an open forum that encouraged the exchange of insights, experiences, policies, and effective practices in nursing education.

Through this collaborative engagement, MMSU and CSU–Carig strengthened their shared commitment to academic excellence, quality clinical instruction, responsible resource management, and the continuous improvement of nursing education.

We sincerely thank the CSU–Carig Campus College of Nursing, led by Dean Dr. Jocelyn B. Ferrer, for choosing MMSU as its benchmarking partner. May this meaningful exchange pave the way for stronger institutional collaboration and more opportunities for mutual learning.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒? | CHS Sends off Batch PREVAIL ahead PNLE

With the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination
(PNLE) drawing near, the Department of Nursing of the College of Health Sciences (CHS) gathered to honor and support Batch PREVAIL during a send-off mass and program at the CHS Auditorium on August 11, 2026.

The event, led by the Philippine Nursing Student Association - MMSU Chapter and the Knights of Nurses, brought together CHS administrators, faculty members, guests, and nursing students in preparation for the August 2026 and February 2027 PNLE.

The program, themed “PREVAIL and eaRN that License"! opened with remarks highlighting the examinees’ years of preparation and journey toward becoming registered nurses, including lectures, examinations, return demonstrations, Related Learning Experiences (RLEs), and case presentations.

Dr. Zhiela Marie F. Abiva, Chairperson of the Department of Nursing, encouraged Batch PREVAIL to draw strength from their journey and the meaning behind their batch name, noting that they had already overcome numerous challenges throughout their nursing education.

“𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙖𝙧 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙖𝙧,”
Abiva stated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Cheryll Didi Nellie N. Obra, Dean of the CHS, reminded the students that their families, professors, classmates, and the entire MMSU community are rallying behind them.

"𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝, 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩," Obra said.
Adding to the messages of inspiration, Dr. Karen Raidis R. Marcelino, College Secretary, emphasized the perseverance driving the examinees' journey, saying, "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙞𝙩, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙞𝙩."

The program also featured a video produced by Insight Publication, which showcased good luck messages and words of encouragement from faculty members.

During the Words of Gratitude, Bernadine Marie Yamat reframed the question “How do you pass the board exam?” beyond options A, B, C, and D, introducing the concept of the 5𝙂𝙨: 𝙂𝙧𝙞𝙩, 𝙂𝙪𝙩𝙨, 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚, 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚.

According to Yamat, grit represents perseverance during difficult questions and long nights; guts is facing the pressure head-on; gratitude is appreciating the people and experiences along the way; growth is learning continuously; and grace is trust.

The program culminated in a candle-lighting ceremony, signifying the examinees' commitment to their chosen career and their aspiration to achieve the title of Registered Nurse.

Prof. Alwin B. Santos, Adviser of the Knights of Nurses, delivered the closing remarks, bringing the program to a formal close and reinforcing the community's full support for the upcoming board examinees.
