Theme: Local Action, Global Goals: NORSU for ASEAN & the SDGs
The Negros Oriental State UniversityโBayawan-Sta. Catalina Campus came alive in a celebration of culture, collaboration, and global citizenship as students, faculty, and staff gathered for the ASEAN and the World: Student Congress 2026 on August 27, 2026, at the NORSU-BSC Gymnasium.
Adding an international dimension to the celebration were distinguished guests and speakers from BINUS University, Indonesia, who shared valuable insights on employability, research collaboration, international partnerships, and innovation across the ASEAN region.
Dr. Yantis S. Kom, MM discussed โEmployability in the ASEAN Context: Preparing Graduates for a Dynamic Region,โ highlighting the competencies and adaptability needed by graduates in an increasingly interconnected ASEAN workforce.
Dr. Tiurida Lily Anita, Research Coordinator for Hotel Management, explored โResearch as a Bridge: Fostering Cross-Cultural Collaboration in ASEAN,โ emphasizing the role of research in building meaningful connections among institutions and cultures.
Dr. Aryanti Wardaya Puspokusumo, BSc, MBM, CPLM, Head of Internationalization and Partnership, shared โBuilding Bridges: Collaboration Potential in Hotel and Tourism Management, Entrepreneurship, and Culinary Innovation in Indonesia,โ opening possibilities for stronger academic and industry collaboration between Indonesia and the Philippines.
The celebration was made even more vibrant as the NORSU-BSC community proudly donned traditional costumes representing the diverse cultures of ASEAN countriesโa colorful expression of unity amid diversity.
The event was also graced by Dr. Craig Refugio, Director for International Research and Linkages NORSU; Stella Marie V. Llera, MBA-HTM, Head of Foreign/International Student Services NORSU; and Maโam Geline Bravo.
More than a celebration, the Student Congress served as a reminder that global goals begin with local actionโand that through education, research, cultural understanding, and collaboration, NORSU continues to build bridges toward a more connected ASEAN community. ๐โจ
