The department commends Engr. Jucel Marie T. Guatlo for presenting her research at the 2026 International Conference in Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (iCEAT) held at SEARCA, University of the Philippines Los Baños on October 6-7, 2026.

We also congratulate the Department of Geodetic Engineering for producing 28 out of 28 new engineers. With this, VSU is recognized as the Top 1 Performing School for September 2026 Geodetic Engineers for Computer-based Licensure Examination.

His award-winning paper, “𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘩𝘪-𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘌𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳-𝘙𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘙𝘪𝘴𝘬𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘓𝘦𝘺𝘵𝘦, 𝘗𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴,” co-authored with Dr. Marvin O. Mallari, explores climate- and weather-related risks in infrastructure projects through the Delphi method.

🎓 CONGRATULATIONS, ENGR. JUNDY R. CASTIL, PH.D. 🎓

The VSU Main Department of Mechanical Engineering proudly congratulates Engr. Jundy Castil on reaching this remarkable milestone and officially earning the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering.

This milestone holds a special place in the history of our Department, as Engr. Jundy R. Castil becomes the first faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering to earn a PhD. His achievement reflects not only his dedication, perseverance, and passion for learning, but also his commitment to advancing engineering education and research.

The Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology – Koganei Campus, Akisawa Laboratory, and Visayas State University for the opportunities, guidance, and support that contributed to this journey.

We also recognize his family, mentors, colleagues, friends, and everyone who stood by him throughout this academic pursuit.

Engr. Ma. Grace C. Sumaria presented her research on 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝘀𝗺𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘾𝙝𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙖 𝙫𝙪𝙡𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙨 under the Sustainable and Green Process theme at the 3rd International Conference on Innovation in Chemical Engineering and Technology (ICICET 2026) in Selangor, Malaysia.

The conference brought together researchers from universities and institutions across Japan, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Among the 19 online and physical presenters under the Sustainable and Green Process theme, Engr. Sumaria was recognized as the Best Presenter.

She is currently pursuing her PhD by Research at Universiti Putra Malaysia. The department congratulates her on this achievement and her continued contribution to agricultural and environmental engineering research.

𝗣𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧 | DME alumni engineers publish a new research paper.

We congratulate our DME alumni engineers Keen Cabalse, Philip John Paul Credo, Metchie Ulan-ulan, Ralph Roland Pagalan, and Roseben Bañez on the publication of their research output.

Their work explores the potential of Longping 2096 hybrid rice husk as a renewable energy resource, examining how torrefaction affects its biomass and biochar properties, including moisture, volatile matter, ash content, and higher heating value. The findings highlight promising pathways for turning abundant agricultural waste into sustainable fuel.

The paper is published by Springer in the proceedings volume "Towards Sustainable Geographies with Net Zero Carbon Economy" in the Environmental Science and Engineering book series.
