𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗣 | Ahead of the orientation for scholars under the Bridging Education through Science and Technology (BEST) for IP Scholarship Program, the NVSU community, led by University President Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale Jr., warmly welcomed its partners from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and representatives of local government units during the annual Ummong Celebration.

The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of various Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities through vibrant song and dance performances. Guests, scholars, and visitors also joined the community dance, fostering unity, cultural appreciation, and a strong sense of community.

𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗣 | The NVSU community gathered this morning at the NVSU Bambang Gymnasium for the formal presentation and recognition of the 45 Indigenous Peoples (IP) students who qualified for the Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Bridging Education in Science and Technology for Indigenous Peoples (BEST for IP) Scholarship Program.

Accompanied by their proud parents and families, the scholars were formally introduced to the university community during a ceremony that celebrated their academic achievement and the opportunities ahead of them as future science and technology professionals.

A highlight of the event was the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Program Management and Implementation of the BEST for IP Scholarship Program, led by NVSU President Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale Jr., DOST-SEI Director Dr. Jayeel S. Cornelio, and Mr. Peter Gerry P. Gavina, Chief of DOST-SEI, signifying the continued partnership between NVSU and DOST-SEI in expanding educational opportunities for Indigenous Peoples.

During the program, Dr. Jayeel S. Cornelio, Director of DOST-SEI, welcomed the new scholars into NVSU's growing community of DOST-supported learners and researchers.

“Itong ating mga bagong BEST for IP scholars, they are joining a growing community of scholars dito sa NVSU,” Dr. Cornelio shared, emphasizing DOST-SEI’s continued investment in the university and its people.

He highlighted that DOST-SEI has already supported more than 120 graduate scholars at NVSU, with 40 ongoing scholars, eight master's and PhD scholars, and 12 NVSU faculty members currently pursuing advanced studies in Thailand and Japan. He also noted that 36 additional scholars are currently supported across the university.

Dr. Cornelio further announced that NVSU is expected to welcome 50 BEST for IP scholars annually, reinforcing the university's commitment to expanding access to quality science and technology education for Indigenous Peoples and empowering future leaders from IP communities.

𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗 | CHED Clarifies Scholarship Audit Observations

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has clarified reports regarding the ₱941.87 million in scholarship transactions cited in recent COA observations.

According to CHED, the amount covers transactions accumulated over several years and primarily involves documentation, liquidation, and audit compliance requirements rather than confirmed cases of fund misuse.

The Commission reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on fund irregularities and its commitment to accountability and the proper management of scholarship funds intended for Filipino learners.

𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝟵𝟰𝟭.𝟴𝟳-𝗠 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), under its current leadership, reaffirmed that it does not tolerate irregularities in the use of public funds and has intensified monitoring of scholarship transactions, including Audit Observation Memorandum (AOMs) issued by the Commission on Audit (COA) before 2025.

CHED clarifies that the ₱941.87 million in scholarship transactions cited in the The Daily Tribune article, “CoA Flags ₱941.87M in CHED Scholarship Irregularities, Citing Fund Mismanagement,” published on October 11, 2026, represents cumulative balances involving transactions dating as far back as 2019 and should be understood within this broader timeline.
