On February 14, 2026, CWTS students, in partnership with the YESD Organization, successfully conducted a bamboo nursery training and workshop themed “Let’s Do Bambooing: Pillar of Nature, Hope for the Future.” The activity aimed to equip students with practical knowledge on bamboo cultivation and care, while highlighting its environmental and economic significance.

The morning session featured Mr. Adelo C. Caberte, President of the United Bohol Bamboo Advocates, Inc. (UBBAI), as the keynote speaker. In his lecture, Mr. Caberte discussed the importance of bamboo as a sustainable resource and introduced the different species commonly grown in the Philippines. He emphasized bamboo’s versatility—describing it as a powerful tool for environmental protection, livelihood generation, and climate change mitigation. According to him, bamboo not only helps prevent soil erosion and improves water conservation, but also serves as a sustainable material for construction, furniture-making, handicrafts, and other income-generating ventures.

Mr. Caberte further encouraged the students to view bamboo not merely as a plant, but as a long-term investment for both the environment and the community. He underscored that with proper care and management, bamboo can become a renewable pillar that supports ecological balance and economic stability.

Meanwhile, the afternoon session focused on hands-on application. Students actively participated in actual nursery establishment procedures, including seedling preparation, proper planting techniques, soil preparation, and maintenance practices. Guided by facilitators, they applied the concepts discussed during the lecture, demonstrating teamwork, responsibility, and enthusiasm throughout the activity.

The workshop concluded with a renewed sense of commitment among participants to promote sustainable practices within the campus and the wider community. Through initiatives like this, CWTS students and the YESD Organization continue to advocate for environmental stewardship—proving that bamboo is indeed a pillar of nature and a hopeful foundation for the future.

Today, Sep 27, 2025, marked a significant step towards a greener future as our dedicated CWTS students joined hands with the Youth in Education for Sustainability Development (YESD) Organization in commencement to the Bambusetum project. This collaborative effort emphasized our shared commitment to environmental and sustainable practices. The Bambusetum, once established, will serve as important resource for education, research, and community engagement, promoting the importance of bamboo in ecological balance and development.

YESD's consistent dedication to green initiatives made them the perfect partner for this endeavor. Their expertise and passion, combined with the energy of our CWTS students, creates long-term benefits for our community and the environment.

It is important to note that each bamboo shoot represents not only the physical act of reforestation but also an awareness and responsibility in the hearts and minds of our youth.

By working together, CWTS students and YESD are fostering a culture of environmental consciousness to the next generation. We look forward to watching this bamboos grow and thrive, symbolizing the strength and resilience of our community and our unshakeable dedication to a greener tomorrow.
