Project SAFE HOUSE: Empowering Barangay Coleto with Safety and Wiring Skills

NEMSU-Bislig proudly announces the successful completion of Project SAFE HOUSE: Safety Awareness and Fire Education with House Wiring Skills Enhancement Phase 1 in Barangay Coleto, Bislig City. Implemented under the BTVTED–Electrical Technology Program, this initiative was designed to strengthen community safety by providing residents with vital knowledge in fire prevention and practical skills in basic house wiring.

The program was formally launched on August 23, 2025, with a MOA Signing led by proponents Garry S. Lindo and Roland O. Nocete. This was followed by a safety and skills orientation facilitated by Moonwin C. Mancia, who discussed essential topics such as House Wiring Safety Awareness, Energy Conservation, and the proper use of tools and materials.

On August 24, 2025, the Hands-on Wiring Workshop was conducted by Garry S. Lindo, where participants engaged in practical exercises including outlet, switch, lighting, and series/parallel installations. Through this activity, residents not only learned technical skills but also built confidence in managing basic electrical tasks for safer homes.

The project concluded with a Culmination and Awarding Ceremony, where certificates, equipping the people of Barangay Coleto with life-saving knowledge and skills that contribute to safer households and a more resilient community.

As part of its ongoing extension initiatives, the Forestry Department of NEMSU-Bislig Campus conducted a series of training sessions under the Coastal and Upland Resources Management Project in Barangay Tumanan, Bislig City from April to July 2025. These activities aimed to equip farmers and residents with practical knowledge and sustainable approaches to environmental protection and resource management.

Throughout the succeeding months, participants engaged in various lectures and workshops, including Republic Act No. 9275 (Clean Water Act) discussed by For. Melchora B. Baculinao, Climate Change Act presented by Jun Mark M. Tomas, and the Importance of Mangroves highlighted by Catherine Hope M. Bustillo. Hands-on training was also provided, such as the Vermi Composting Demo/Workshop by For. Hannah G. Pantaleon, Alternative for Pesticides and Foliar Application by Genevieve A. Vergara and Charry Mae S. Numeron, and Nursery Establishment and Management facilitated by Rosalie R. Basalo.

The project culminated on July 28, 2025, with an activity showcasing the outputs and learnings of the participants. Supported by the local government and actively participated in by the farmers and residents of Barangay Tumanan, the Coastal and Upland Resources Management Project successfully fostered community-driven environmental conservation and food security initiatives.

NEMSU-Bislig Empowers SK Officials Through Building Effective Communicator and Procedural Expert (BECPE) Project

In its continuous pursuit of strengthening communication and leadership skills in local communities, NEMSU-Bislig successfully implemented the Building Effective Communicator and Procedural Expert (BECPE) Project in Barangay Kahayag and Barangay San Fernando, Bislig City. The project ran from June 6–24, 2025, covering a series of training sessions designed to enhance public participation, conflict resolution, parliamentary procedures, and effective communication strategies.

The initiative formally began with a MOA Signing and Launching Ceremony on June 6, 2025, at Barangay San Fernando, led by faculty members Lovella C. De Ramos, Lorly P. Caperida, Dr. Myrna T. Alferez, Lourdes L. Bauya, Cristine G. Ombao, and Beverly Love M. Rebosura. With strong support from the barangay officials, the project emphasized the value of collaboration between the university and local government in empowering SK officials of Barangay Kahayag and Barangay San Fernando.

Throughout the sessions, experts including John Mark P. Sual, Dr. Lovella C. De Ramos, Dr. Lorly P. Caperida, Dr. Myrna T. Alferez, Dr. Lourdes L. Bauya, Cristine G. Ombao, and Ms. Beverly Love M. Rebosura shared their knowledge on topics such as conflict resolution, agenda management, handling motions, documenting decisions, and effective business correspondence.

The program culminated on June 24, 2025, at the NEMSU-Bislig Accreditation Office, marking the completion of this comprehensive extension initiative. The BECPE project stands as a testament to NEMSU-Bislig’s commitment to equipping SK officials and community leaders with essential skills for effective governance, communication, and procedural expertise.

The In-House Review for 2026 Research and Extension Proposals Funding opened on August 12 at NEMSU–Tandag Campus with keynote messages from university leaders and engaging plenary sessions. NEMSU–Bislig Campus was represented by Extension Head Ms. Melchora B. Baculinao alongside Extension Presenters Dr. Myrna T. Alferez, Ginalyn P. Estose, Cristine G. Ombao, and Krizelle Tracy T. Paulmitan, as well as Research Presenters Dr. Lourdes L. Bauya, Roland O. Nocete, and Garry S. Lindo, demonstrating the campus’s strong commitment to research excellence and meaningful extension initiatives.

NEMSU-Bislig Launches Green Initiative for Coastal and Upland Resources Management in Barangay Tumanan, Bislig City

Demonstrating its continued commitment to environmental conservation and food security, the Forestry Department of NEMSU-Bislig Campus officially launched Coastal and Upland Resources Management (Phase 1) on April 23, 2025, through a MOA Signing and Launching Ceremony held at Barangay Tumanan, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur. The activity was actively supported by Barangay Captain Hon. Gil M. Abarondo and the Barangay Kagawads and Council, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort between the university and the local government of Barangay Tumanan. Aimed at empowering the farmers of the barangay, the project seeks to strengthen their capacity to protect and manage natural ecosystems through education, practical, and sustainable strategies.

For. Whelson C. Pasos, Project Leader, formally opened the program and welcomed all participants. He was joined by For. Melchora B. Baculinao, Extension Head of NEMSU-Bislig Campus, along with For. Hannah G. Pantaleon, Program Chair of the Forestry Department. Supporting the initiative as activity leaders and facilitators were faculty members Rosalie R. Basalo, Catherine Hope M. Bustillo, Jun Mark M. Tomas, Charry Mae S. Numeron, and Genevieve A. Vergara, who delivered insightful lectures on sustainable resource management and environmental stewardship.

An engaging dialogue was held with Barangay Captain Hon. Trifino Peregrino on March 5, 2025, to dicuss Project MAHARLIKA: Fostering Mental Awareness, Healing, and Resilience for Personal Growth and Community Advancement. Present during the discussion were the project proponents, Dr. Myrna T. Alferez and Campus Guidance Counselor Ginalyn P. Estose, together with For. Melchora B. Baculinao, Extension Head of NEMSU-Bislig Campus. The meeting centered on the project’s goal of promoting mental well-being and strengthening community resilience through awareness and healing-focused initiatives.

Project TECHNO Sets the Pace for 2025 Extension Efforts in Barangay Bucto

Marking the beginning of NEMSU-Bislig Campus’ 2025 extension initiatives, Project TECHNO: Training on Electrical Installation and Maintenance & Automotive Electrical Assembly with Personal and Spiritual Development Activities takes the spotlight in empowering local communities through both skills training and values formation.

On March 3, 2025, a strategic meeting was conducted with the Barangay Council of Bucto, Bislig City, headed by Hon. Vicenta C. Odares, where the project was formally presented and discussed by Project Proponent Garry S. Lindo, with the support of For. Melchora B. Baculinao, Extension Head of NEMSU-Bislig Campus, together with the dedicated faculty members of the BTVTED Program. This significant dialogue laid the groundwork for collaboration, which was officially sealed during the MOA Signing Ceremony held on March 28, 2025.

With Barangay Bucto as the primary beneficiary, the project aims to equip residents with vital technical skills in electrical wiring and automotive assembly, while nurturing their personal and spiritual development, empowering individuals and strengthening the heart of the community.

In today's dynamic educational landscape, the significance of extension services and strategic linkages cannot be overstated. These initiatives serve as vital bridges between academic institutions and the communities they serve, fostering reciprocal relationships that enrich both parties. The In-house Review of Extension Services and Linkages held on July 9-10, 2024, at NEMSU Bislig's New Building, exemplified this commitment, bringing together dedicated professionals to explore innovative approaches and amplify the impact of their collective efforts.
