Long before our nation took shape, Indigenous People had already built communities rooted in culture, tradition, and a deep connection to their ancestral lands. Their heritage is woven into the story of our country, carrying the wisdom and strength of generations who came before us.
This October, we honor not only the rich history of our Indigenous People but also the living traditions and communities that continue to keep their heritage alive.
The weavers who turn threads into stories. The chanters whose voices carry the memories of their ancestors. The warriors who stood strong for their communities. The elders and knowledge keepers who pass down the wisdom, values, and traditions that define their identity.
Their tattoos tell stories of identity and courage. Their woven patterns reflect culture and heritage. Their chants echo the voices of generations past, reminding us of the roots that continue to connect us to our history.
In observance of National Indigenous People's Month, as declared under Proclamation No. 1906, s. 2009, and in recognition of Republic Act No. 8371, or the Indigenous Peoplesโ Rights Act of 1997, let us honor not only the beauty of Indigenous cultures but also the rights, dignity, and identity of Indigenous People. May we continue to respect their ancestral domains, listen to their voices, and help preserve their living heritage for generations to come.
Because Indigenous People are not simply part of our pastโthey are part of our present and our future. Their stories deserve to be heard, their cultures deserve to be respected, and their heritage deserves to live on.
