𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | Bulan Celebrates Literature, Heritage, and Local Talent at “Sa Irarom San Bulan”

BULAN, Sorsogon — Stories, music, poetry, and cultural performances took center stage at the Bulan Freedom Park on the evening of May 23 as residents, artists, students, and cultural advocates gathered for “𝗦𝗮 𝗜𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻,” a community-led cultural event dedicated to celebrating the literary, historical, and artistic heritage of Bulan.

The event featured a series of performances that highlighted the richness of Bulan’s identity through songs, spoken word poetry, storytelling, traditional literary pieces, and various artistic presentations. More than a cultural showcase, the gathering served as a platform for preserving and promoting the town’s local literature, creativity, and collective memory.

The initiative also received the support of Mayor Romeo A. Gordola and the Municipal Tourism and Cultural Office, both recognizing the importance of strengthening cultural awareness and appreciation among Bulaneños through community-driven initiatives.

During the program, Mr. Antonio “Tony Boy” Gilana expressed his admiration for the organizers and their efforts in preserving Bulan’s literary heritage. Reflecting on the significance of the gathering, he ended his historical talk with an encouragement:

“𝘐𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘶𝘨𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘯 𝘳𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘵-𝘥𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘵, 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘪 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘭 𝘴𝘢 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘉𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘯 𝘬𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘪 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘸𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘉𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘸𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘮𝘰.”

The event also became a venue for local talents to showcase their artistry and passion through performances that celebrated both tradition and self-expression. Although several revisions to the program were made due to time constraints, resulting in some performances being unable to proceed, attendees and organizers alike still regarded the gathering as meaningful, successful, and fruitful.

The evening concluded with a heartfelt message of gratitude from the organizer of “Sa Irarom San Bulan,” Ms. Jayne Arianna Grace V. Gotera, who thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event — from performers and volunteers to guests and supporters. She also expressed her hope for more future initiatives that will continue to promote and preserve the culture, history, and literature of Bulan for future generations.

Organizers and attendees alike expressed optimism that the event would serve as the beginning of a renewed appreciation and revival of Bulan’s literary heritage, inspiring future generations of writers, storytellers, poets, and cultural advocates to continue preserving the town’s identity through art and literature.

Beneath the moonlit sky, “Sa Irarom San Bulan” did not just became a cultural gathering — it became a celebration of identity, storytelling, artistry, and the enduring spirit of the Bulaneño people that did not just end in applause but in a call to love our home, Bulan, Sorsogon.

Diri na mag duwa-duwa, i-upod an mga barkada nan pamilya, nan darahon an puso na handang magbati, nan makisarô sa pagselebrar san sa atô kultura.

BULAN CAMPUS — Last March 19, 2026, the Sorsogon State University Social Hall came alive as the STAND Organization successfully held a vibrant concert filled with singing, dancing, and theatrical performances. From the powerful opening act “Mga Bisig ng Bayan,” which highlighted social issues faced by Filipinos, to heartfelt worship song that sang by a group, to energetic dance numbers vibing with the beats while they wore their different and colorful outfits, cultural presentations, and impressive solo and duet performances, the event showcased the incredible talents and creativity of the students.

Despite minor technical difficulties, the performers and organizers continued to bring excitement and inspiration to the audience throughout the night. The concert not only entertained but also promoted awareness, culture, and self-expression, leaving everyone with unforgettable memories and appreciation for the passion and dedication of the performers.

Organized by the school organization dedicated to Singing, Theatre, Arts, and Dancing, the concert serves as a platform for students to express themselves through different forms of performance and artistic expression. It brings together talented individuals who share the same love for music, acting, visual arts, and dance, creating an unforgettable experience for both performers and audiences. The STAND Organization prove that they did not just have a talent of movements, and a voice for singing, but also a voice that promotes the common good, and STANDs to what is right

The school concert is more than just a simple event—it is a great opportunity for those students who got to turn their dreams into reality. Performing in front of people, hearing the audience’s claps and cheers, and shining with your talent.

As the event came to an end, the President of the STAND Organization expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the concert, including the performers, organizers and audience members. The night concluded with a lively final performance where the members of the organization gathered on stage, singing and vibing together with the music. The concert ended successfully, leaving the audience with unforgettable memories, inspiration, and appreciation for the talents and creativity of the students.

The school concert officially began at 6:42 p.m., gathering students from both inside and outside the campus, along with relatives and guests, to witness the showcase organized by STAND. The event highlights the students’ talents and skills in music, singing, dancing, and acting while promoting unity and school spirit among performers and attendees.

The program opened with a speech from the STAND Organization President, Theo Gicaro who welcomed everyone and expressed gratitude to the participants and guests for supporting the event.

The theatrical presentation titled “Mga Bisig ng Bayan” served as the opening performance and was successfully presented before the audience. Following the acting presentation, a dance number connected to “Mga Bisig ng Bayan” took the stage, setting the atmosphere for the rest of the program. More performances, including solo singing, band performances, dance numbers, and other presentations, are expected throughout the concert.

Kagabi, ganap na alas-nuwebe, ibinaba ng Tabsing Kolektib PH ang huling ilaw ng kanilang dulang All of Eabab sa Guyala Hall, Zone 5, Bulan, Sorsogon. Mula Mayo 15 hanggang 17, 2026, naging espasyo ang entablado hindi lamang ng pagtatanghal, kundi ng pakikipag-usap sa alaala, karanasan, lakas, at kolektibong pag-unawa.

Sa pagpatay ng ilaw at pagputol ng tunog ng mikropono, madaling sabihing tapos na ang lahat. Ngunit gaya ng maraming pagtatapos sa sining, ang wakas ay hindi ganap na pagwawakas. Ito rin ay isang paglipat—mula sa pisikal na entablado patungo sa mas tahimik ngunit mas matagal na espasyo ng pagninilay.

Ang teatro, sa ganitong mga pagkakataon, ay hindi lamang sining ng pagganap. Isa itong pampublikong espasyo ng kamalayan—kung saan ang mga linya ay hindi lamang binibigkas, kundi nagiging bahagi ng mas malawak na salaysay ng komunidad. Sa Bulan, ang ganitong pagtatanghal ay lumalampas sa mismong gabi ng palabas; umaabot ito sa mga alaala ng mga nanood, at sa mga diskursong tahimik na isinisilang pagkatapos ng palakpakan.

Hindi simpleng pagtatapos ang huling bow. Sa halip, ito ay paraan ng pagkilala—sa mga artistang nag-alay ng katawan at tinig, at sa mga manonood na naging bahagi ng pagbibigay-kahulugan sa dula. Sa ganitong paraan, ang sining ay hindi one-way na paghahatid kundi sabayang paglikha ng kahulugan.

At kung may natitira man pagkatapos ng kurtina, ito ay ang tanong: ano ang nananatili kapag nawala na ang entablado? Sa All of Eabab, gaya ng maraming dula, ang sagot ay hindi kaagad natatapos sa gabi ng pagtatanghal. Ito ay patuloy na umiiral sa katahimikan ng mga nakaupo, sa mga pag-uusap pagkatapos ng palabas, at sa mga pagbabagong tahimik na sumisibol sa loob ng mga nakapanood.

Sa bandang huli, ang teatro ay hindi lamang sining ng pagtatapos. Ito rin ay sining ng pagpapatuloy—isang pag-iral na tumatangging magwakas kahit pa patay na ang ilaw sa entablado.

Sa pagtatanghal ng Tabsing Kolektib sa kanilang dulang All of Eabab, muling binubuksan ang isang matagal nang diskurso sa loob ng lipunan: ang maling pagbasa sa kababaihan bilang “mahina” dahil sa kanilang kakayahang umibig nang ganap, makadama nang malalim, at magpamalas ng malambot na puso. Ngunit sa masusing pag-unawa, ang mismong mga katangiang ito ang maaaring ituring na pinakamatibay na anyo ng kanilang kakusugan. Sa dalawang magkaibang dula, malinaw ang pagtatangkang ilarawan ang kababaihan bilang kabuuan ng emosyonal na karanasan—mula sa pag-ibig, aliw, pangungulila, at pag-asa, hanggang sa pighati, galit, at pagbangon. Sa unang salaysay, nangingibabaw ang imahen ng ina at anak: isang babaeng patuloy na nag-aalaga, may pusong banayad ngunit matatag, at nakasentro ang hangarin sa paghubog ng tahanang buo, payapa, at nagkakaisa. Ang paggamit ng Bicol-Waray, pangunahing dayalekto sa Bulan, ay lalong nagpapatingkad sa ugnayan ng sining at pamayanan. Sa bawat linya at diyalogo, mas nagiging kongkreto ang emosyon at karanasan, na naglalapit sa entablado at sa manonood sa isang mas organikong pag-unawa sa tema ng dula.

Sa huli, ang All of Eabab ay hindi lamang isang pagtatanghal. Isa itong paalala na ang kababaihan ay hindi dapat ikahon sa naratibong kahinaan. Ang kanilang pagkamoot nan pagkatawo—na madalas ipakahulugang kaluyahan—ay sa katunayan isang makapangyarihang anyo ng kakusugan: tahimik, malalim, at nananatiling matatag sa kabila ng araw-araw na hamon ng buhay. Our fellow Sorsueño, 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐲 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 from 𝐁𝐒𝐈𝐓 𝟑-𝟒, needs our help. Her family’s house in Coron-Coron, Matnog, Sorsogon, was affected by a fire on May 6, 2026.

In line with this, we are humbly asking for donations and financial assistance to help Micah Mae and her family recover from the incident and slowly rebuild what was lost. Donations in the form of clothes, food, water, hygiene kits, sleeping gear, and other basic necessities are also highly appreciated.

Sorsoganons, SorSUeños, and the public are encouraged to support and participate in the observance of Ease of Doing Business (EODB) Month this May through the Photo Contest, Reels-Making Contest, and other activities.

The initiative advocates for faster, simpler, and more efficient public service for every Filipino while strengthening awareness against bureaucratic red tape and encouraging transparency and accountability in governance.
