If our heroes could see the Philippines today, what would they ask of us?
Perhaps not monuments.
Not medals.
Not grand words.
But courage. Integrity. Service.
Our national heroes gave their strength, their voices, and, for many, their lives in the hope of a better nation. Their sacrifices remind us that building a country is not the work of one generation alone. Each generation inherits the responsibility to carry that work forward.
Today, we honor them not only by remembering their names and the stories they left behind, but by reflecting on the role we play in shaping the Philippines we want to leave for those who come after us.
As members of the Agusan del Sur State University community, may we embody the same spirit of service in the work entrusted to us through education that empowers, service that creates meaningful impact, integrity that guides our actions, and a commitment to communities that need us most.
Because heroism is not always found in extraordinary moments. It can be seen in the teacher who inspires a learner, the employee who serves with dedication, the student who chooses to make a difference, and every individual who uses their knowledge, skills, and opportunities for the good of others.
The legacy of our heroes is not meant to end with remembranceโit is meant to continue through us.
This National Heroes Day, may we honor the past by serving the present and helping build a future worthy of their sacrifices.
Their courage shaped our history.
Our actions will shape what comes next.
