Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) took part in the Health Policy and Systems Research (HPSR) Network Convergence Forum 2026 held at Sarrosa International Hotel, Cebu City, on March 17 to 18, 2026. The forum serves as the culmination of the Data to Policy (D2P) Program of the Department of Health (DOH) Center for Health Development-Caraga in partnership with Vital Strategies.

The D2P is a multi-stage intensive training and mentorship designed to bridge the gap between public health data and policy formulation. It is a collaborative initiative under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative involving partners like Vital Strategies and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

During the forum, FSUU presented two policy briefs that address pressing public health concerns in the Caraga Region demonstrating how data can be translated into actionable policy solutions.

The first policy brief, “Educate to Eliminate: Strengthening Education and Counseling to End MDR TB in the Caraga Region,” prepared by Ms. Maria Katrina L. Costiniano, Dr. Mark Bon Basadre, and Ms. Oliva L. Asendente, highlights how improved patient education can strengthen treatment adherence and help address drug resistant tuberculosis, particularly through a peer-led teach-back counseling approach.

The second, “Break the Speed: Curbing Road Crash Injuries in Butuan City,” prepared by Dr. Shirlene Medori T. Alegre, Dr. Tarcisio B. Candog Jr., and Dr. Joseph El Roy B. Cassion II, emphasizes the importance of integrating road safety into the school curriculum to shape responsible behavior early and help reduce road crash injuries.

Through these contributions, FSUU continues to foster evidence-based policymaking and contribute to meaningful solutions for communities in Caraga
