Congratulations to 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐝 𝐂. 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐳, 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DABE), on his successful acceptance and completion of the month-long 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 at the prestigious 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠) in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Heidelberg University is Germany’s oldest university (since 1386) and one of Europe’s leading research universities. Engr. Sanchez was among the 21 participants selected from hundreds of applicants worldwide, exclusively from DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship holders pursuing master’s and doctoral studies.
The Summer School Program consisted of an online phase from July 6–18, 2026, followed by an in-person phase from July 25–August 24, 2026. The program provided intensive, hands-on training designed to give early- and mid-career researchers opportunities to participate in high-level academic training in selected subject areas, engage and exchange ideas with peers from around the world, and gain meaningful experiences of German society, culture, and history. A further objective of the program was to contribute to the long-term improvement of teaching and research conditions in partner countries and to strengthen their higher education structures. Beyond the intensive academic and practical sessions in Heidelberg, the program featured educational excursions and official visits to several important institutions and destinations, including Bonn, where participants visited the DAAD Headquarters, Deutsche Welle, GIZ, and the United Nations, as well as Strasbourg, France, where they visited the European Parliament, and other EU countries such as Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
The program also included various social and cultural activities, such as city tours, museum visits, group dinners, and other activities that promoted professional networking, intercultural exchange, and international collaboration among participants. The training followed a modular design comprising four key topics and a total of 120 learning hours: (1) Creating an Intercultural Learning Environment; (2) Participatory Teaching Techniques in Higher Education; (3) Quality and Ethics in Research and Publication; and (4) Grant Proposal Writing.
The Summer School was funded by the 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 (𝐃𝐀𝐀𝐃) through its program on the “Academic Qualification of Junior Researchers from Developing Countries,” with financial support from the 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐁𝐌𝐙). This international academic experience further strengthens Engr. Sanchez’s capabilities in teaching, research, academic leadership, international collaboration, and grant development, contributing to his continuing professional growth as a faculty member and researcher.
Engr. Sanchez’s participation underscores the strong commitment of the Department to internationalization and the continuing professional development of its faculty members by securing opportunities for global exposure, academic exchange, and professional advancement through support from renowned international funding institutions.
