𝐖𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐳𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐞.

Jorn Utzon (1918–2008) was a Danish architect best known for designing the iconic Sydney Opera House, a groundbreaking work that earned him the 2003 Pritzker Architecture Prize. Known for his organic, sculptural style inspired by nature and simple geometry, Utzon won the Opera House competition in 1957 while still relatively unknown, but controversies during construction led to his resignation before its completion. Despite this, his visionary design reshaped modern architecture and became a global symbol of innovation. Beyond the Opera House, he also designed the Kuwait National Assembly, Bagsværd Church in Denmark, and several modernist houses that showcased his mastery of light, space, and form, solidifying his legacy as one of the most influential architects of the 20th century.

𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗘𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗢𝗡 | Recognition

The spotlight shines on the dancers, but the soul of the performance was crafted behind the scenes. The Mega Dance Crew — Orange Wild Cats of the College of Engineering and Architecture proudly recognizes the brilliant minds and hands of The Architecture Students.

With exceptional creativity and skill, they transformed abstract ideas into a stunning reality, giving form and movement to the crew's potential. Their invaluable artistic contribution was a cornerstone of our victory.

In recognition of their invaluable contribution, the Architecture Student Association - SJIT, President, Voltaire Dumanon , presented them with Certificates of Recognition on October 28, 2025.

We extend our deepest gratitude for their talent and dedication. Without them, this achievement at the 54th Founding Anniversary of Saint Joseph Institute of Technology on October 24, 2025, would not have been possible.

Liu Jiakun (born 1956 in Chengdu, China) is a Chinese architect and founder of Jiakun Architects. He graduated from Chongqing Institute of Architecture and Engineering in 1982 and worked in various regions of China before starting his own firm in 1999. In 2025, he received the Pritzker Architecture Prize, recognizing his human-centered and context-based approach to design.

His architectural philosophy focuses on local context, cultural memory, and human experience rather than visual spectacle. He balances tradition with modern needs, emphasizing material honesty, local craftsmanship, and social responsibility.

Notable projects include:

West Village (Basis Yard, Chengdu) – a mixed-use complex integrating public life and commerce.

Luyeyuan Stone Sculpture Art Museum – blending landscape and architecture in the spirit of Chinese gardens.

Suzhou Museum of Imperial Kiln Brick – a reinterpretation of traditional materials.

Tianbao Cave District Renovation – preservation and adaptive reuse of heritage spaces.

Significance:
Liu’s work highlights architecture’s social role—responding to local climate, history, and community needs. His designs promote sustainability, adaptation, and human comfort, showing how architecture can serve both people and environment.

Relevance to sustainable habitat research:
Liu’s principles—contextual design, material reuse, and community focus—offer lessons for building adaptive, human-oriented habitats, including concepts useful for extraterrestrial environments like Mars.
