Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) welcomed the distinguished delegation from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) of The United Methodist Church.
The director of WUP Carolina L. Gozon Institute for Lifelong Learning, Mr. Christian Jan Fausto, showcased its pioneering work in implementing micro-credentials and its dedication to fostering collaborations and research, particularly for the betterment of marginalized communities.
Mr. Christian Jan Fausto passionately introduced WUP CLGILL and its pivotal role in driving innovation and development within the university and beyond. Highlighting the significance of micro-credentials, Dir. Fausto showcased their successful implementation both within the university and in various regions across the Philippines. These micro-credentials have offered learners a flexible and accessible pathway to acquire specialized skills and recognition for their achievements.
The micro-credentialing initiative, which has gained substantial traction among learners, educators, and employers, particularly piqued the interest of the GBHEM delegation. They recognized the potential of such programs in uplifting marginalized communities by providing them with targeted skill sets that are in demand in the job market.
In a candid discussion following the presentation, members of the GBHEM delegation shared their admiration for WUP's efforts to empower learners from all walks of life, and they expressed a keen desire to explore opportunities for collaboration in further promoting micro-credentials in the Philippines and other regions. The prospects of assisting the marginalized through accessible education were deemed to be in alignment with the values and mission of The United Methodist Church.
