COMMGANAP | WU-P Honors 80-Year Legacy with Student-Led Anniversary Photo Exhibit
Wesleyan University-Philippines celebrated a historic milestone on March 23, 2026, as university officials gathered at the College of Arts and Sciences’ building for the opening of "Walong Dekada ng Tagumpay at Pagpapala." The annual photo exhibition, staged at the third-floor Communication Laboratory, served as a visual tribute to the institution’s 80th founding anniversary. Organized and hosted by second-year Communication students, the event officially commenced at 3:00 PM with a formal walkthrough attended by the university’s executive leadership and academic faculty.
The visit was led by University President Dr. Irineo Alvaro Jr., who was accompanied by Vice President for Administration and Planning—Dr. Gladys P. Mangiduyos, Vice President for Academic Affairs— Dr. Wilfredo C. Ramos and Vice President for Finance—Dr. Marites A. Castañeda. Also in attendance to provide spiritual and academic support were Reverend Francis Fajardo, Pastor Charlie Kruz, and Pastor Rudy, alongside CAS Dean Marietta B. Agustin. Their presence underscored the university’s unified commitment to honoring its eight-decade journey of faith and academic excellence while supporting the creative endeavors of its student body.
The curated exhibition showcased 22 pivotal photographs captured during the university’s week-long 80th anniversary festivities. Rather than a standard gallery display, each image was paired with a thoughtfully crafted tula (poem). This artistic fusion of photography and literature created a cohesive narrative and storytelling, allowing visitors to experience the university’s growth, achievements, and enduring legacy through both a visual and a linguistic lens.
A highlight of the visit occurred during the closing ceremony, when Dr. Alvaro Jr. offered a personal tribute to the organizers. In a gesture of appreciation for the students' hard work, the University President presented a tula of his own. This exchange highlighted the administration’s dedication to fostering an environment where arts and culture are celebrated as essential components of the Wesleyan educational experience.
Ultimately, "Walong Dekada ng Tagumpay at Pagpapala" stands as a powerful testament to the storytelling capabilities and creative spirit of the Wesleyan community. By blending historical reflection with modern student talent, the exhibit successfully commemorated eighty years of institutional success and spiritual blessings. The event concluded as a resounding celebration of the growth and faith that continue to define the university’s identity.
