History of Araullo University
Pamantasan ng Araullo (formerly Araullo Law School) was established in 1950. It was created by virtue of a board resolution with the following members: Judge Lauro S. Valentin Castelo, Dr. Herminia Castelo-Sotto, Miss Priscilla S. Emmanuel S. Esteban, and Mr. Ambrocio S. Esteban. From a law school it grew into a college which steadily grew in number of enrolment as w
ell as stature. Named after Hon. Manuel Araullo, second Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, the Araullo Law School then was founded to meet the growing demands in the study of law, arising from the rapid growth of the City of Cabanatuan particular and that of Nueva Ecija in general. The school registered an initial class of twenty seven (27) law students housed in the rented upper floor of the Cabanatuan Puericulture Center, which still exists until today at Paco Roman Street. From a humble beginning, Araullo Law School grew up steadily and gained leadership in a number of ways. As enrolment and goodwill soared up, facilities had to expand and courses had to diversify. Hence, from being a law school, it levelled off into a college under the official name Araullo Lyceum until finally, in 1983, Araullo Lyceum was granted University status by the DECS. Founded as a non-sectarian, co-educational and multiple ownership private school, Araullo University gives primacy to the intellectual, physical, social and moral competence of its students. Conceived as a learning center for the greater service rather than for profit, the University can now claim an unparalleled performance at least in this area, for having turned, as it still is turning out graduates who are playing dynamic roles in the political, social and economic fields. They are occupying positions of leadership and responsibility in the judiciary, legislative, and executive echelons of government as well as in civic, business, education and professional organizations. After staying from 1951 to 1969 at its second campus in a leased premise along M.H. del Pilar Street, the University climbed to greater heights and eventually, it acquired and moved in 1969 to a five-hectare lot at Brgy. Bitas, along the national road where all of its buildings, structures and facilities now stand. Distinguishing itself as an educational landmark, the University was cited as early as 1963 as the “most outstanding institution in Central Luzon” by the League of Provincial Governors. Other awards and recognitions were conferred upon the University in the years that followed. It is likewise honored with affiliation and membership in more than thirty international and national associations of schools, colleges and disciplines. On April 20, 2004, Araullo University became part of PHINMA Education Network.
