WUP ROTC Reaffirms Excellence with High Rating in Regional Inspection

The Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) ROTC Unit once again affirmed its reputation for excellence after achieving an outstanding overall rating of 96.17%, with an equivalent remark of “EXCELLENT,” in the Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection 2026 on March 27, 2026, at WUP Cushman Campus.

“This remarkable accomplishment reflects not only the unit’s high level of preparedness but also its unwavering commitment to discipline, leadership, and service—core principles that define the ROTC program,” noted LTC ROGELIO DUMBRIGUE, ROTC Commandant.

The RAATI 2026 served as a comprehensive evaluation of the unit’s administrative efficiency and tactical proficiency. The inspection covered various aspects, including personnel management, training implementation, logistics, and overall operational readiness. Each component was carefully assessed to ensure that the unit meets and exceeds the standards set by the Armed Forces of the Philippines for Reserve Officers’ Training Corps units nationwide.

The inspection was spearheaded by COL EUGENE F GARCE GSC (Inf) PA, Chairman of RAATI.

“His leadership and expertise underscored the significance of maintaining excellence in both organizational management and field operations. His presence not only added prestige to the event but also reinforced the importance of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement within the unit,” LTC DUMBRIGUE commented.

Prof. Fatima Salih, ROTC Coordinator, acknowledged that the achievement was made possible through the steadfast support and guidance of the university’s leadership, particularly Dr. Irineo G. Alvaro Jr., University President, and Dr. Marietta B. Agustin, NSTP Director, citing that their dedication to holistic student development has been instrumental in cultivating an environment where academic learning and military training are harmoniously integrated.

“Their commitment ensures that cadets are not only equipped with technical skills but are also molded into responsible, service-oriented citizens,” she added.

At the forefront of the ROTC Unit’s success was the leadership of LTC ROGELIO A DUMBRIGUE JR (OS) PA, whose direction and supervision enabled the unit to demonstrate exceptional coordination, discipline, and readiness throughout the inspection process.
Under his command, the cadets were able to execute tasks with precision and confidence, reflecting the effectiveness of their training and the strength of their leadership structure.

C/COL CLARENCE ALLA, Corps Commander, explained that the success of RAATI 2026 was not solely the result of leadership but also of collective effort.

“The dedicated Training Staff, supportive Alumni, and knowledgeable Guest Instructors played vital roles in mentoring and guiding the cadets. Their shared expertise and commitment to excellence significantly contributed to the unit’s overall performance. Each training session, rehearsal, and preparation activity was carried out with diligence, ensuring that every cadet was well-prepared for the rigorous evaluation,” he expounded.

Further, C/COL ALLA shared his observation, stating, “One of the most notable aspects of the inspection was the strong sense of camaraderie displayed between the Advance and Basic Cadets. This unity highlighted the importance of teamwork and mutual support within the ROTC program. It demonstrated that beyond individual competence, the strength of the unit lies in its ability to work together toward a common goal. The collaboration between different levels of cadets exemplified discipline, respect, and a shared dedication to uphold the ROTC’s core values. Ultimately, the successful conduct of RAATI 2026 stands as a testament to the Wesleyan University–Philippines ROTC Unit’s operational readiness, administrative excellence, and enduring commitment to service. More than just an evaluation, the event became a meaningful milestone that showcased the unit’s growth, resilience, and pursuit of continuous improvement.”

This achievement highlighted not only the unit’s present success but also set a benchmark for future endeavors. It inspired both current and aspiring cadets to strive for greater heights, reinforcing the ROTC’s mission of developing competent, disciplined, and patriotic leaders who are ready to serve the nation.

CHTM Delegates Complete Cultural Exchange Program in China

The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) of Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) completed its first cultural exchange program in mainland China, with faculty members and students participating in a seven-day immersion from March 23 to 28, 2026.

The delegation visited Cangzhou City in Hebei Province and Beijing, where participants engaged in activities focused on Chinese culture, history, intangible heritage skills, and the hospitality and tourism industry.

Dr. Dulce Amor S. Padilla, Dean of CHTM, said the initiative forms part of the university’s internationalization efforts.

“This program reflects Wesleyan University-Philippines’ continuing commitment to providing global learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom,” Padilla said.

Participants, who included 13 students (Lianne Ryselle B. Canlas, Ashley Gayle S. Rabanillo, Mary Hazelle B. Manalang, Aubrey Diane DS. Madulid, Jazzmine S. Paguio, Hannah Mae Bumaa, Princess D. Gogola, Nhelien Santillan, Edlyn P. Flores, Edlynn S. Buendia, Anthonette A. Javier, Jean Lenard M. Inda, and Francine Mae R. Viernes) and six faculty members (Dr. Jonah Faye Gaspar, Dr. Michelle Tangonan, Prof. Nancy Mae Ricio, Prof. Roselia Nuñez, Prof. Renee Christelle Ramos, and Prof. Nikki Toga) took part in cultural demonstrations, local historical tours, and industry exposure activities designed to broaden their academic and professional perspectives.

Dr. Gaspar described the experience as an opportunity for applied learning, stating, “The immersion allowed students to observe and experience hospitality and tourism practices in an international setting.”

She also commented that the program also aims to contribute to long-term academic collaboration between institutions.

“It opens opportunities for academic partnerships and strengthens cultural understanding between Filipino and Chinese participants,” Dr. Tangonan noted about the cross-cultural engagement that the exchange supported.

The College underscored that the initiative aligns with efforts to enhance global competencies among students and contribute to workforce development in the service sector.

The China program followed a similar international activity conducted in Taiwan in 2025 (Summer Camp) involving CHTM students and faculty.

Meanwhile, the College started deploying 48 students to the United States starting the first week of April 2026 under its Work and Travel program.
