Extreme heat is increasingly becoming a concern for communities, schools, workplaces, and other public spaces. The heat index, which combines air temperature and relative humidity to indicate how hot conditions feel to the human body, provides an important measure of heat-related risk.โฃ

In August 2026, PAGASA forecasts associated with Cagayan de Oro reached 43ยฐC, prompting the suspension of classes in public schools on August 13โ14 because the heat index had entered the Danger category. โฃ
โฃ
The Department of Health Northern Mindanao advised residents to stay well hydrated during periods of extreme heat. Despite the availability of drinking water and hydration stations within the USTP-CDO campus, their locations may not always be immediately known to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.โฃ
โฃ
During periods of elevated heat, particularly when members of the campus community are walking between buildings, attending outdoor activities, conducting fieldwork, participating in physical activities, or spending extended periods outdoors, the ability to quickly locate a water-refilling point becomes increasingly important.โฃ
โฃ
The absence of a centralized spatial reference for campus hydration facilities creates an information-access gap. This project addresses this gap by transforming the locations of existing hydration stations into an accessible, interactive digital map. Each mapped hydration station may contain information such as the status (if operational or not) and a picture of the station.โฃ
โฃ
This project demonstrates how mapping and GIS can be applied to a practical community and campus problem rather than functioning solely as a mapping or visualization tool.โฃ
