DepEd, CHED, TESDA launch One Education to speed up reforms in education and workforce development

One Education, a unified brand and platform, was launched Friday under the trifocal education system involving the DepEd, Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The initiative seeks to link reforms across basic education, higher education, and technical-vocational education, as well as workforce development. Under One Education, a more seamless and more accessible education linkage is institutionalized between the three agencies.

Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan is among the institutions worldwide included in the 2026 Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings, joining the list as a new entrant and earning citations in five SDGs: No Poverty, Quality Education, Affordable and Clean Energy, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and Partnerships for the Goals.

This global assessment measures how universities worldwide are advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It evaluates institutions in research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching to gauge their comprehensive commitment to environmental and social sustainability.

XU joins the ranks of other Ateneo schools in this recognition, namely Ateneo de Manila University, Ateneo de Davao University, and Ateneo de Naga University.

In preparation for the implementation of the delegates' community projects, the Teacher Education Student Leaders Assembly (TESLA) 5, together with the XU Student Involvement and Advocacy Program (SIAP), held an ocular visit to the Philippine Island Kids Foundation, Inc. (PIKIFI) Learning Center on May 27.
The TESLA 5 Core Team, together with a delegate representative, visited PIKIFI's facilities in Zayas, Carmen, and its shelter in Canitoan to better understand the community's needs and identify opportunities for meaningful engagement.
During the visit, the group met with PIKIFI representatives to discuss the center's programs, beneficiaries, and current concerns. The discussions also provided an opportunity to seek guidance and gather insights that would help ensure the delegates' proposed projects are responsive to the needs of the community.
The ocular visit served as a vital step in grounding the delegates' initiatives in the realities faced by the beneficiaries, reinforcing TESLA 5's commitment to developing community-centered and sustainable projects.

IN PHOTOS: The Teacher Education Student Leaders Assembly (TESLA) 5 recently concluded its final ocular visit to the Philippine Island Kids Foundation, Inc. (PIKIFI) Learning Center on June 20.
The visit was attended by the TESLA 5 Core Team and delegate representatives. Participants toured PIKIFI’s facilities in Zayas, Carmen, where they met with beneficiaries and conducted a get-to-know-you (GTKY) activity. They also visited the foundation’s shelter in Canitoan, where representatives provided an overview of PIKIFI’s mission, programs, and services.
As the second and final visitation activity of the program, the ocular visit is expected to provide delegates with valuable insights that will help them develop their proposed community projects. These projects will be presented during the project pitching activity scheduled for June 27.
TESLA 5 is a leadership formation program organized by the XU Arrupe Educational Center (AEC) in collaboration with the XU Student Involvement and Advocacy Program (SIAP) for community engagement. The program aims to equip future educators with leadership skills while fostering meaningful social responsibility.

Xavier University School of Education (XU SOE) Teachers’ Guild successfully implemented the Books Across Oceans: International Book Donation Project, bringing more than 1000 books to underserved public high schools across Northern Mindanao. Conducted on 2, 6, and 20 May 2026, the initiative was made possible through the partnership between the Teachers’ Guild and Lugoff-Elgin Middle School in South Carolina, USA.
