LICEO U CONDUCTS THE 3RD YOUTH FORUM ON ENVIRONMENT

Liceo de Cagayan University, through the Office of the Vice President for Research, Publication, and Extension and the Liceo Center for Community Development in collaboration with the LDCU Mindanao Center for Biodiversity and Conservation and Office of the Vice President for Student Personnel Services , conducted the third Youth Forum on Environment last October 7, 2017 at Audio Visual Room 1. The said activity was co-organized with the Liceo Green Advocates, the Central Student Council, and the Student Body Organizations of the various colleges of the University. The forum was participated by faculty and students from the different colleges and departments. The program started with a prayer led by Ms. Marifi Geolina, the coordinator of the Campus Ministry. Dr. Lesley Casas Lubos, the Vice President for Research, Publication, and Extension gave the opening remarks. The rationale of the activity was discussed by Ms. Hanna Borja. Ms. Flordelit Antig, the Vocal Solo Champion during the Liceo University Games 2017 performed a musical number. Ms. Maria Catherine C. Opena, the Ecosystem Management Specialist of the Environmental Management Bureau – Region X, discussed the Environmental Programs for the Youth specifically on the Solid Waste Management Program. Another intermission number was given by the 1st Runner-up of Vocal Solo of the Liceo University Games 2017, Mr. Mark Gomez. The Environmental Management Specialist II of the Environmental Management Bureau – Region X and the Focal Person on Metro Airshed CDO, Mr. Jessie James B. Osin talked about the Youth and the Global Warming. An open forum followed to answer the concerns and questions of the faculty and student leaders with regards to the environment. Mr. Edzen A. Espina, the Vice President for Student Personnel Services, gave the closing remarks and thanked everyone for their active participation in the activity.

LICEO U LAUNCHES THE ADOPT-A-MOUNTAIN PROJECT

Liceo de Cagayan University launched its Adopt-A-Mountain Project last May 25, 2017 at Malasag, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City. The project was headed by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Publication, and Extension and Liceo Center for Community Development, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region X, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office, and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office. The Adopt-a-Mountain Program was initiated pursuant to the DENR Administrative Order No. 98-62 dated October 1, 1998. The program aims to develop/grow a tree and manage a one hectare area within the Malasag Reforestation Project in support of the government’s efforts in the sustainable management of the country’s forest lands. The program will last for five (5) years and renewable for another three (3) years. Liceo de Cagayan University is the first school to implement the Adopt-a-Mountain Program in the Region.

The launching started with the opening remarks of Dr. Lesley C. Lubos, Vice President for Research, Publication, and Extension. The Director of Liceo Center for Community Development and Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy Dr. Felsa A. Labis, gave the rationale of the activity. The Adopt-A-Mountain Project was launched through a ceremonial tree planting of Narra tree seedlings (the Philippine National Tree) by the Liceo U Administrators, DENR, CENRO, and PENRO. Dr. Lesley Lubos, Dr. Felsa A. Labis, Ms. Prenelei P. Vasquez (Assistant Director of LCCD), Dr. Judith T. Dalman (Dean of the College of Nursing), and Mrs. Emma M. Dejarme (Research and Community Extension Coordinator) represented Liceo de Cagayan University while Mr. Buenaventura P. Labininay represented CENRO. Liceo U Student Body Organizations, the Central Student Council representatives, and Ms. Donna Rose Socaoco, Miss Earth 2017 candidate from Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental also participated in the launching. The activity culminated with the closing remarks of Ms. Prenelei P. Vasquez.
