This September, it is not just about hanging your Christmas lights at the start of BerMonthsโit is a reminder about recognizing the warning signs and, most importantly, create spaces where people feel safe enough to speak, be heard, be understood, and supported enough to seek help.
From 2024 to 2026, the theme for ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก is "๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ก๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฆ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ". This global movement for su***de prevention awareness started on World Su***de Prevention Day on September 10, 2003, by the International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP) collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO). Its purpose is to encourage communities to notice and bring the conversation about su***de prevention globally, and to raise awareness about the importance of changing the narrative and beliefs surrounding su***de.
This September and for the succeeding months, let us be part of changing the narrative. Let us not only raise awareness, but be someone a person can come to and be reached out to, because we listen, we care, and we are there for them.
