𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 ☝️🤓

The earliest documented typhoon forecast was made by the Jesuit priest Fr. Federico Faura of the Observatorio Meteorologico de Manila (today known as the Manila Observatory) on July 7, 1879. This document was the first in the Asia Pacific to predict the occurrence, duration, and course of a typhoon.

Fr. Faura would repeat his accurate typhoon prediction again in November of the same year. With Manila facing relatively minimal damage due to preparations based on Faura’s information, the forecasts proved popular among merchants and seafarers. Through Spanish royal decree, the Manila Observatory would become the official weather forecasting institution. This observatory would lay the groundwork for what would become today’s Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
