An experimental short film produced as a class activity by the 𝗨𝗘 𝗖𝗙𝗔𝗗 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱–𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 has been 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 at the 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 (𝗜𝗜𝗨𝗦𝗙𝗙) in Bangladesh. The film earned this recognition among 1,269 entries from around the world. The festival was held from September 21 to 23, 2026, marking a significant international achievement for the student filmmakers of the University of the East College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (UE CFAD).

Titled “𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵,” the six-minute experimental film was directed by Rafael Kiedis Ocampo, Airish Tayag, and Roniel Icasiano. Inspired by the Kuleshov Effect, the film brings together three interconnected works that weave together fragments of everyday life, memory, and imagination. It explores how meaning is shaped not only by images but also by the spaces, pauses, and silences between them, inviting audiences to consider how context can transform perception.

Together, the three films form a collective narrative—an experiment in seeing, feeling, and interpreting truth as something fluid, constructed, and shared. What makes this achievement particularly meaningful is that “Assembled Truth” was, in essence, a whole-class project. It represents a unique milestone in which the BFA Visual Communication Batch 2025–2026 collectively became part of an international film festival selection.

Three separate short films developed as class projects were assembled into one collective work and subsequently submitted to international film festivals. The project was developed and supervised under the tutelage of Asst. Prof. Richard Soriano Legaspi, a faculty member of UE CFAD and Curator of the Chua King Ha Galleries.

Rather than being the work of only a small production team, “Assembled Truth” reflects the shared creative process of an entire class, bringing together different perspectives, ideas, skills, and contributions into one cinematic work.

Over the years, IIUSFF has evolved into a platform where diverse young voices from across the globe are given opportunities to be heard, represented, and celebrated.

The UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture, and Design continues to showcase its academic excellence as another thesis project by our 𝗕𝗦 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 was officially shortlisted in the prestigious Anthology Festival Thesis Competition!

Congratulations to graduates 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘆𝗰𝗲 𝗟. 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹, 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗕. 𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗼, who represented the university on a nationwide architectural stage under the guidance of their thesis advisers, 𝗔𝗿. 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗺𝗲-𝗖𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘆𝗼.

Their shortlisted research and design proposition, titled "𝘼 𝙇𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙑𝙞𝙚𝙬𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩: 𝘼 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙮 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢-𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨," led to the design of Paseo de San Pablo—a proposed eco-cultural and tourism complex in San Pablo, Laguna.

Grounded in extensive research involving over 400 respondents, tourist interviews, and expert insights, the study highlights how indigenous materials such as bamboo, cogon, wood, and stone serve as strong symbols of Filipino identity and cultural authenticity. Through Paseo de San Pablo, the team demonstrates how local building materials are more than just construction elements—they act as tangible carriers of culture and tools for spatial storytelling. By combining traditional materials with modern construction techniques, the project transforms San Pablo's rich intangible heritage into an immersive physical space that bridges the past and the present.

Aligning seamlessly with the festival’s theme, "Shared Ground: Care, Culture, and Collective Futures," the thesis shows how architecture can create a meaningful shared ground where local heritage, sustainability, and community identity can be experienced and preserved for the future.

Their thesis project, titled "𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙎𝙪𝙗𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙀𝙭𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙮 𝙏𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙥, 𝘽𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙠𝙖𝙣, 𝘽𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙖𝙣," tackles the urgent challenges of sea-level rise, ground subsidence, and massive land reclamation in Sitio Libis, Brgy. Taliptip.

To help residents adapt rather than face displacement, the team designed the Community-Linked Amphibious Cluster—a resilient solution combining amphibious homes, floating walkways, elevated communal spaces, and shared livelihood hubs. By allowing structures to rise with floodwaters, the design ensures families can remain safely rooted in their community and protect their way of life.

Aligning with the festival’s theme, "Shared Ground: Care, Culture, and Collective Futures," their project proves that shared ground does not always have to be dry ground—sometimes, it is the shared decision to adapt, protect local heritage, and build a sustainable future alongside water.

UE CFAD BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS - VISUAL COMMUNICATION SHORT FILM NAMED INTERNATIONAL FINALIST IN BANGLADESH

2026 UE CFAD ANNUAL ART AND DESIGN CONTEST (ARTDECO): CELEBRATING THE DRAWING CONTEST WINNERS

Congratulations once again to all the winners and finalists of the UE CFAD Art and Design Competition (ArtDeco) 2026!

This year’s On-the-Spot Graphite Pencil Drawing Competition brought together talented freshmen students from the Painting, Visual Communication, Interior Design, Architecture, and Multimedia Arts programs of the University of the East – College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (UE CFAD), challenging them to translate their ideas, observations, and creative imagination into compelling graphite drawings within a limited time.

The First Prize was awarded to Karylle E. Ramil of BFA Visual Communication, followed by Syesha Eunice F. Sia, also from BFA Visual Communication, who received the Second Prize, and Ia Mikaela A. Sarabia of Multimedia Arts, who received the Third Prize. The Art Club Manila Sponsor’s Choice Award was presented to Samantha Raven S. Paman of BFA Visual Communication.

Joining them as finalists were Guiller M. Equibal of BS Interior Design, Samantha Raven S. Paman of BFA Visual Communication, Jeffrey S. Mimay of BS Architecture, Lilka Cielo Santos of BFA Visual Communication, Ezekiel P. Layesa of BS Interior Design, Samantha Jane T. Beltran of BS Architecture, and Kristel Antonette S. Chan of Multimedia Arts.

All finalists were awarded certificates and art materials generously provided by Art Club Manila, while the top three winners received certificates, medals, and cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding works. The winning and finalist entries are now being exhibited at the Chua King Ha Galleries, extending the experience beyond the competition and giving the wider UE community an opportunity to appreciate the creativity, discipline, and artistic perspectives of the young participants.

The success of ArtDeco 2026 would not have been possible without the collective support of the UE CFAD Academic Guild and Art Club Manila, whose commitment continues to nurture opportunities for young creatives within the college.
