To allow students additional time to recover following the recent flooding while ensuring the continuity of academic activities, classes at all levels at the University of the East Manila and Caloocan Campuses shall shift to an online synchronous modality tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

For the College of Dentistry, the following arrangements shall apply:

• Clinical activities: Face-to-face (F2F)
• Classes: Face-to-face (F2F) or online synchronous, at the discretion of the respective faculty members

Students are advised to coordinate with their respective faculty members and check their official class communication channels for schedules, activities, and other instructions.

Leniency shall be extended to students who remain affected by the recent flooding, unsafe routes, or compromised travel conditions. Affected students are encouraged to communicate with their respective faculty members to make appropriate arrangements regarding their classes and academic requirements.

These arrangements are subject to any subsequent directives from Malacañang, the respective Local Government Units (LGUs), or the University.

BAYBAYIN: ANG TITIK NG BAYAN SA DALUYONG NG KASAYSAYAN

Sa bawat kurba at guhit ng Baybayin ay may kuwentong nakaukit; sa bawat titik ay may tinig na minsang umalingawngaw mula sa ating mga ninuno. Sa pagtalakay sa kasaysayan, anyo, at pamanang iniwan nito, muli nating tuklasin kung paano naging daluyan ng saloobin, gunita, at pagpapahayag ang mga sinaunang titik, mga bakas ng isang bayang marunong magsalaysay bago pa man ito naisulat sa mga pahina ng kasaysayan.

Sa gitna ng patuloy na daluyong ng kasaysayan, halina’t balikan ang mga titik na minsang nagsalita para sa atin. Maaari kayang sa muling pagbasa sa Baybayin, muli rin nating mabasa ang ating sarili bilang isang bayan?

UE CFAD BFA Visual Communication Alumnus Jesse Camacho’s Latest Exhibition, “Back to Square One”

Fresh from a successful pop-up at the Urban Collectibles Art Fair in Bangkok, UE CFAD Visual Communication alumnus and Filipino pop artist Jesse Camacho presents his latest exhibition, “Back to Square One,” a pocket solo exhibition opening on August 23, 2026, at gallery. sort of. The exhibition features Camacho’s new paintings alongside refreshed versions of collectible resin toys from the early years of his career, revisiting the everyday objects and small details that first sparked his imagination as a young artist.

“Back to Square One” also marks a homecoming for Camacho and gallery. sort of., which hosted his first solo exhibition in 2023. Three years later, he returns with a growing body of work and an expanding presence in the international collectible art scene. Camacho has recently collaborated with Pickup Coffee and Bicycle Playing Cards, while his limited-edition art toys have brought him to conventions in Singapore, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and Thailand.

A graduate of the University of the East–Caloocan College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (UE CFAD) Visual Communication Program, Camacho continues to develop a distinct voice in Filipino pop and collectible art, bringing together painting, character design, and collectible culture in his evolving artistic practice.

“Back to Square One” opens to the public on August 23, 2026, at gallery. sort of., located at 37 Camaro St., Fairview Park, Quezon City.

BAYBAYIN: ANG TITIK NG BAYAN SA DALUYONG NG KASAYSAYAN

Bilang pakikiisa sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Kasaysayan 2026, inihahandog ng Art History Cluster ng Department of Fine Arts, katuwang ang Multimedia Arts Program ng College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (CFAD), University of the East Caloocan, ang isang seminar-workshop na nakatuon sa isa sa mga katutubong sistema ng pagsulat ng Pilipinas—ang Baybayin.

Layunin ng seminar-workshop na palalimin ang kaalaman at pagpapahalaga ng mga kalahok sa Baybayin bilang mahalagang pagpapahayag ng kasaysayan at pamanang kultural ng Pilipinas. Nilalayon din nitong linangin ang kamalayang pangkasaysayan at literasiyang kultural, gayundin ang mas malalim na pag-unawa sa patuloy na kabuluhan ng Baybayin sa kasalukuyang lipunang Pilipino.

Samahan kami sa pagtuklas sa kasaysayan, anyo, at pamanang iniwan ng Baybayin, at sa muling pagkilala sa kung paano naipapahayag sa ating sinaunang sistema ng pagsulat ang mga kuwento, pagkakakilanlan, at kolektibong alaala ng sambayanang Pilipino.

UE CFAD Visual Communication Faculty’s Documentary Reaches Finals of the 38th CCP Gawad Alternatibo

The University of the East College of Fine Arts, Architecture, and Design (UE CFAD) proudly celebrates another milestone as the award-winning short documentary "Get Ready With Me", directed by BFA Visual Communication faculty member Mntr. Elvin Jay Macanlalay, has been selected as one of the nine national finalists in the Documentary Category of the 38th CCP Gawad para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Bidyo (Gawad Alternatibo).

Running for 15 minutes, "Get Ready With Me" is a deeply intimate and socially resonant documentary that follows the lived experience of Gianne Loba, a trans woman with a cleft palate. Through the seemingly ordinary ritual of preparing for the day, the film unfolds as a powerful reflection on resilience, self-expression, and identity amid the realities of social prejudice and exclusion.

At the heart of the documentary is Loba’s courageous and nuanced on-screen presence, transforming everyday moments into a compelling narrative about visibility, dignity, and survival. By portraying the intersection of queerness and disability with honesty and compassion, the film invites audiences to engage in meaningful conversations about inclusion, acceptance, and human dignity.

The documentary has also gained international recognition, having been officially selected for the Q***r Film Festival in Kathmandu, Nepal, and the Positively Different International Short Film Festival in Athens, Greece.

Written, directed, and produced by Elvin Jay Macanlalay, Get Ready With Me exemplifies his continuing commitment to creating films that amplify marginalized voices and tell stories grounded in lived realities. The production was supported by students and alumni of the UE CFAD Visual Communication program, with AJ Louis Balgos serving as cinematographer, Anjella Cruz as editor, and Airish Tayag as production coordinator.

The 38th CCP Gawad para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Bidyo will be held from August 7 to 15, 2026, with screenings taking place at Red Carpet Cinemas, Shangri-La Plaza, and Gateway Cineplex 18. The festival remains one of the country's most prestigious platforms for independent and alternative cinema, celebrating innovative Filipino filmmakers and works that challenge conventions and inspire dialogue.

UE CFAD VISUAL COMMUNICATION GRADUATES EARN FINALIST SPOTS IN CCP GAWAD ALTERNATIBO

The University of the East College of Fine Arts, Architecture, and Design (UE CFAD) continues to strengthen its legacy in Philippine independent cinema as two experimental short films by its recent Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication graduates have been selected as finalists in the Experimental Category of the 38th Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video.

Lois Andrea Galapia's "Anggategatel" (Ang Kati-Kati) and Mira May Cedo's "Walang Maniniwala" were chosen among the 12 finalists from numerous entries submitted by filmmakers across the country.

Galapia's "Anggategatel" follows a character who suddenly experiences an overwhelming itch that spreads throughout her body. Every part she scratches is burdened with superstitions imposed by society, exposing the derogatory beliefs and expectations often placed upon women.

Meanwhile, Cedo's "Walang Maniniwala" presents a deeply personal visual narrative in which every repetitive plunge of a needle becomes an attempt to stitch together the shattered fragments of a younger self. This quiet, endless act of creation serves as a lifelong survival strategy, concealing painful memories beneath a carefully crafted façade of normalcy.

This recognition marks another significant milestone for UE CFAD as it continues to strengthen its presence in the CCP Gawad Alternatibo, the country's longest-running independent film competition and one of the oldest independent film festivals in Southeast Asia.

Adding to this accomplishment, both Lois Andrea Galapia and Mira May Cedo recently became part of another national achievement after receiving a production grant through the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Student Film Assistance Program (SFAP) for the short film N2MU. Galapia serves as the project's Production Designer, while Cedo takes on the role of Production Manager.

UE CFAD's consistent success at the CCP Gawad Alternatibo over the past four years with multiple finalists and award-winning films in the experimental, documentary, and animation categories highlights the College's reputation as a cradle of emerging Filipino filmmakers and visual artists. Through its Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication, an accredited program under the FDCP Academic Film Society (AFS), UE CFAD remains committed to nurturing creative excellence and producing filmmakers whose works continue to earn recognition on both national and international platforms.

SOURSPLASH: MakiSining Art Group of Los Baños, Laguna Exhibition | UE CFAD Sangang-Daan Community Exhibition Series

Continuing its commitment to fostering artistic dialogue and celebrating creative communities, the University of the East College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (UE CFAD), through the Chua King Ha Galleries, proudly presents the third exhibition in its Sangang-Daan exhibition series:

SOURSPLASH explores the powerful emotion of disgust, not only as a physical reaction but as a force that shapes our social, cultural, and moral boundaries. Through thought-provoking works, the exhibition challenges viewers to reflect on what we reject, what we fear, and how these responses influence our understanding of identity, purity, difference, and belonging.

Founded in 2011, MakiSining Art Group is a collective of artists from Los Baños, Laguna committed to fostering interdisciplinary practice and meaningful creative exchange among artists, scientists, and cultural workers.
