University-community engagement best practices 🇵🇭
UNIVERSITY NEWS | UE introduces ALS Center
Out-of-school children in special cases, youths, and adults enrolled in Alternative Learning System (ALS) of partner schools will now be able to use facilities in the University of the East (UE)-Caloocan with the opening of the ALS Centers in the campus.
Made possible through the UE Office of Extension and Community Outreach-National Service Training Program (OECO-NSTP), the UE-ALS will serve as part of the University's ongoing efforts in inclusive and accessible education.
The UE-ALS will supplement the current DepEd-ALS program with lifelong skills training, in partnership with the Committee on Extension and Community Outreach (CECO), Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), alumni, and other volunteers.
The ALS pilot program is in partnership with Caloocan High School, Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, and GOMBURZA Elementary School.
ALS Centers are set up in rooms 206 and 207 of the Administration Building (ADM) at the Caloocan campus.
Following the Republic Act 11510 or ALS Act of 2020, the UE-ALS aims to reduce illiteracy and dropout rates, provide a chance to return to formal education through Accreditation and Equivalency Test that empowers learners with life skills, provides appropriate learning facilities, and showcases the University's program offerings and services.
The UE-OECO will be in charge of the UE-ALS Center's establishment and operations.
The Department of Education (DepEd)-ALS Coordinators will facilitate the enrollment and endorsement of the list of enrollees to the UE-OECO, while DepEd Schools Division Office will be responsible for the accreditation and equivalency tests and certifications. They will also aid the ALS graduation.
