During intramurals, the game is expected to heat up. The cheers that hype the players, the whistles that make them pause the game, and the feeling of finally competing in the sport they have practiced so hard to win all add to the excitement.
But what happens when the pressure becomes too much? When the game gets into a playerโs mind and emotions, would they begin to hate their opponents personally because of it?
One word: sportsmanship.
Before each game, players from different teams meet each other and give each other high fives. They smile and wish each other good luck. This is not merely because it is necessary for the game, but also a way of telling each other that the competition will not be taken personally.
Sportsmanship means leaving the heat on the court while keeping the familiarity and respect for one another outside of it. In these intramurals, sportsmanship is very evident as every player showcases this character throughout the competition.
Because even with the strongest desire to win, players do not need to burn someone else to reach victory.
No hard feelings. Just hard-fought games.
