Today, the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineersโ€“University of Eastern Philippines Student Chapter (PICE-UEPSC) joins the entire nation in honoring our mentors who continue to guide, inspire, and shape our minds.

To all the faculty members of the Civil Engineering Department, thank you for teaching us lessons that go beyond the syllabus. Every student aiming for those four letters before their names is grateful to have mentors who teach them to believe in themselves and keep moving forward regardless of how difficult the situation is.

Dr. Rem N. Laodeรฑo, Dean of the College of Engineering, approved the resolution for the Buligay-Tutduay Program last September 30, 2026.

As a peer mentorship program of the PICE-UEP Student Chapter, this initiative aims to establish a sustainable culture of mentorship, academic cooperation, and mutual support among Civil Engineering students. The program is sponsored by Feil Chris Madayag and co-sponsored by Adrian Clark Godinez, whose support contributes to the realization and implementation of this initiative.

The concept of this peer mentorship or "buddy-buddy" program was first proposed during the first General Meeting of the organization on September 1, 2026, under the agenda on Academic and Professional Activities. It was subsequently raised by students during the PICE General Assembly on September 3, 2026, expressing the need for a structured mechanism through which senior Civil Engineering students may share academic guidance, experiences, and practical insights.

This program will start in the first week of October this year, where only registered PICE Members are eligible to join.

Through this, it will strengthen academic excellence and student engagement through peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing. The organization will continue the tradition of service and academic support within the Civil Engineering community.

On October 1, 2026, the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineersโ€“University of Eastern Philippines Student Chapter (PICE-UEPSC) officially welcomed its newly elected officers during the Induction of Officers and Oath-Taking Ceremony held at the UEP Centennial Building.

The ceremony marked the beginning of a new term as the officers took their oath and formally accepted the responsibilities entrusted to them. With College of Engineering Dean Dr. Rem N. Laodeรฑo in attendance, the occasion highlighted the officersโ€™ commitment to leadership, service, and the continued growth of the Civil Engineering community.

The ceremony concluded with a photo opportunity, bringing together the newly inducted officers as they begin their term and take on their roles in serving the organization and its members.

As a new chapter begins, may the officers lead with purpose, serve with commitment, and uphold the values of PICE-UEPSC in building a stronger and more united Civil Engineering community.

Fourteen (14) out of fifty-seven (57) takers of the College of Engineering (CoE), University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) Main Campus passed the arduous Civil Engineering Licensure Examination last September 26-27, 2026.

With these fourteen passers, six were first takers and eight were retakers resulting in an overall passing rate of 26.92%. This achievement is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and perseverance, as well as the faculty's guidance during their college days.

Today, the first Civil Engineering Quiz Bee organized by the PICE-UEP Student Chapter and Civil Engineering faculty successfully concluded at Room 102 of the College of Engineering.

Seif Lester Gaspar was hailed as the champion for the first year level among 12 participants, while Joan Labian emerged as the champion for the second year level. Meanwhile, Mark Laurence Uy and Mark Jason Dugan dominated the third and fourth year levels, respectively, competing 39 and 38 participants.

Each winner from every year level received a certificate and a cash prize worth of Php. 500. The cash prizes were generously sponsored by alumni of the Civil Engineering Department: Engr. Romer Saliling, Engr. Peter Paul Basiloy, Engr. Julie Ann Tafalla, and Engr. Aldiom Svenn Lathrop.

This activity was a resounding success that not only showcased the academic excellence of the civil engineering students but also strengthened the bond between, students, faculty, and alumni.

The PICE-UEP Student Chapter will organize a monthly quiz bee exclusively for civil engineering students every first Friday of the month throughout Academic Year 2026-2027.

This implementation seeks to establish academic activities that will supplement classroom learning, encourage continuous review, and strengthen the knowledge and problem-solving skills of civil engineering students.

Moreover, this is exclusively for PICE Members and for non-members who voluntarily chooses to participate may be required to pay a fee of P50.00 to maintain fairness between registered members and non-members.

The quiz will consist of multiple choice, identification, and problem solving questions which will be categorized into easy, medium, and difficult parts.

There will be only one winner for each year level who obtains the highest validated score. In case of a tie, a tie-breaker round will be conducted until the winner is determined. Winners will receive a certificate of recognition, and an appropriate prize subject to the availability of funds and approval of the organization. Other incentives may include cash prizes, academic material, and academic points may be granted only when expressly approved by the concerned subject instructor.

The quiz will cover civil engineering subjects appropriate to the participant's year level. For 4th-year participants, the quiz will include topics from subjects taken from 1st year to 4th year. For 3rd-year participants, the coverage will be from 1st year to 3rd year, while 2nd-year participants will answer questions based on subjects from 1st year to 2nd year. For 1st-year participants, the quiz will focus only on subjects covered during their 1st year.

This aims to promote academic excellence and continuous learning among civil engineering students and provide PICE Members with an additional academic benefit through regular learning activities. For more details, the official resolution will be sent to the respective group chats.

Today, the officers of PICE-UEP Student Chapter together with the Civil Engineering Faculty, conducted a Visita Iglesia to seven churches here in our province as support for our takers of the Civil Engineering Licensure Examination (CELE) on September 26-27, 2026.

Engr. Kissa P. Banawis, Civil Engineering Department Chair, Engr. Lorna Ramis, and Engr. Ric Gonzaga joined the officers to pray asking for guidance, strength, and success as they take the exam to become licensed Civil Engineers.

The visited churches were St. John the Baptist Parish, Pambujan; St. Roche the Healer Parish, San Roque; St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Mondragon; St. Clare Monastery, Doรฑa Lucia; University Chaplaincy of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, UEP; Diocesan Shrine of Nuestro Padre Jesรบs Nazareno, Cawayan; and Our Lady of the Annunciation Cathedral Parish, Catarman.
