Samar State University officially welcomed the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) survey team as it opened the AACCUP Online Accreditation Survey Visit, Level IV-Phase 2, covering three of its academic programs on September 7, 2026.

The three-day survey visit from September 7-9, 2026 will evaluate the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs.

Serving as Overall Coordinator is Dr. Jaime M. Forbes, who leads the team in the evaluation. Joining him are Dr. Anabell Aban Gacayan and Dr. Mary Ann A. Artizuela for BEED; Prof. Arnold L. Alburo and Engr. Rhoderick M. Favorito for BSEE; and Ms. Ruby B. Santos-Matibag and Prof. Rachel D. Castillo for BSN.

For SSU, the Level IV-Phase 2 survey visit marks another important step in its continuing pursuit of quality and excellence. The evaluation focuses on the programs’ demonstrated results and outcomes, reflecting the University’s sustained commitment to continuous improvement and quality education.

As the survey visit gets underway, the university welcomes the AACCUP team with confidence and openness, recognizing the evaluation not only as an assessment, but also as an opportunity to learn, improve, and further strengthen its academic programs.

Samar State University (SSU) officially commenced its five-day online accreditation survey visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) today, August 10, via Zoom.

The accreditation survey covers the 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥-𝐕𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐁𝐓𝐕𝐓𝐄𝐝), with majors in 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠, and the 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 (𝐁𝐒𝐍𝐃).

The activity formally opened with a welcome message from University President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, who underscored the university’s commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement in its academic programs.

This was followed by the introduction of the AACCUP evaluation team, led by Dr. Jesselyn Rafin as team leader, with Prof. Michael Ray Burlas, Prof. Aurita Laguador, and Prof. Loreen Daphnee Bundang serving as members.

The five-day virtual survey visit will involve a comprehensive assessment of the programs based on AACCUP’s established standards and criteria for accreditation. The evaluation will cover various areas, including the programs’ curriculum and instruction, faculty, research, community engagement, facilities, student services, and other key aspects of academic quality and institutional performance.

Through the accreditation process, SSU continues to strengthen its culture of quality assurance and demonstrate its commitment to providing relevant, responsive, and quality education to its students and the communities it serves.

The university community looks forward to a productive and meaningful accreditation engagement with the AACCUP evaluation team as SSU continues its pursuit of academic excellence and continuous institutional improvement.

SSU welcomed representatives from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) for a Program and Institutional Monitoring and Validation Visit for the Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES) on July 22–23, 2026.
The two-day activity was held at the 3rd Floor Convention Center, SSU Main Campus, as part of the university's continuing efforts to ensure quality assurance and uphold academic excellence.

Samar State University is an educational landmark of vital importance to the province of Samar. It gives everyone the opportunity to pursue higher education, which is very much needed for vocational proficiency, and individual as well as national development.

SSU is currently hosting the CHED Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) Validation Visit for its Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) Program.

The validation is being conducted by the CHED Technical Evaluation Team composed of Dr. Angie M. Ceniza-Canillo and Dr. Ariel Kelly D. Balan as Technical Evaluators, with the participation of Ms. Remedios S. Talingdan from the CHED Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) and Engr. Nelly L. Labrada from the CHED Regional Office VIII.

This activity underscores the university’s commitment to ensuring that its MSIT program fully complies CHED policies, standards, and guidelines, particularly in the areas of curriculum, faculty, instructional resources, research, extension, and student support services.

Demonstrating its continuing pursuit of quality assurance and academic excellence, Samar State University successfully conducted the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) Validation Visit for its Master in Public Management (MPM) Program today, June 18, 2026.

The one-day evaluation brought together the Commission on Higher Education evaluation team composed of Dr. Sanjay P. Claudio, Technical Evaluator; Ms. Lucita Mejia, CHED-OPSD Representative; and Mr. Jan Paolo K. Vega, CHEDRO VIII Program In-Charge, who assessed the program’s compliance with CHED’s established policies, standards, and guidelines.

The activity commenced with the customary preliminaries, followed by a warm and inspiring message from Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, University President, who highlighted the institution’s dedication to continuous improvement and the delivery of meaningful and high-quality graduate education.

COPC validation is an essential quality assurance process that ensures academic programs meet the standards set by CHED. For SSU’s MPM, this evaluation reflects the university’s goal of developing capable, ethical, and forward-thinking public service professionals equipped with the knowledge and leadership skills needed in today’s evolving governance landscape.

As SSU warmly receives the valuable observations, insights, and recommendations of the evaluation team, it remains committed to embracing opportunities for improvement and further strengthening the quality, relevance, and impact of its graduate programs. SSU Kicks Off Phase 1 Internal Quality Audit to Reinforce Excellence and Continuous Improvement

Samar State University thru the University Quality Assurance Office officially launched its Phase 1 Internal Quality Audit today, May 11, 2026 marking the beginning of a four-day institutional undertaking that will run until May 14. The audit serves as a significant initiative in evaluating and strengthening the effectiveness of the university’s Quality Management System (QMS).

Anchored on the principles of accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence, the internal audit underscores the university’s steadfast commitment to delivering quality education and responsive public service. More than a compliance-driven activity, the IQA is viewed as a meaningful opportunity for institutional growth, process enhancement, and organizational development.

The audit activities are led by competent and dedicated Team Leaders across the university’s campuses: Engr. H**e C. Uy (Main Campus), Mr. Jake Boy D. Carbonquillo (Mercedes Campus), and Engr. Flory Jean A. Loreño (Paranas Campus). Their leadership plays a crucial role in ensuring that audit processes are conducted objectively, systematically, and constructively.

In his opening message, SSU University President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture grounded in integrity and accountability. “What we tolerate becomes our culture,” Dr. Palencia remarked in his opening message, highlighting the responsibility of every university personnel to model practices worthy of emulation. He also encouraged auditees to remain receptive to observations and recommendations raised during the audit process, stressing that these insights are essential in improving institutional processes and advancing the university’s overall performance.

As the Phase 1 Internal Quality Audit progresses, SSU continues to demonstrate its dedication to sustaining quality standards and fostering a culture of excellence that benefits both the institution and the stakeholders it serves.
