An Impact Storytelling Masterclass was facilitated by filmmaker Pia Duran with Sama-Bajau youth, USC Anthropology students, and USC Museum volunteers. As an advocate for indigenous peoples' rights, she emphasized how young people, especially in the Sama-Bajau community, can become storytellers and changemakers, highlighting their experiences, challenges, and resilience. This activity is part of the department's Community Extension and Service Learning Program, in partnership with the USC Center for Social Research and Education and the USC Museum.

The Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and History Faculty begins the academic year with renewed vigor, hard work, and dedication. Together, we embrace new challenges and opportunities to deepen cultural awareness, preserve history and heritage, and contribute meaningfully to society—and yes, survive another year of readings, checking, and “transfer to another building” moments.

The department has made it a tradition to begin each academic year with a meaningful dialogue with its co-curricular student organization, the Carolinian Sociological Anthropological Society (CARSAS).

With the presence of Department Chair Dr. Leny G. Ocasiones, CARSAS Adviser Mr. Dale Daitol, and the student officers, the gathering provided a valuable space for consultation and collaborative discussions on students’ issues, concerns, and aspirations.

This continuing dialogue reflects the department’s commitment to student-centered education and to fostering a more responsive, inclusive, and supportive academic community—where students’ voices are heard and valued.

One is on the Tartanilla in urban Cebu City, while the other is on Farm Tourism in Bohol. The full articles are now available on Jstor.

A Research Capability-Building Training/Workshop was conducted over the Summer Term (June-July) with faculty members of USC-DASH. The activity was organized and spearheaded by the USC Center for Social Research and Education (CSRE). Session 1 started off with the Basics of Social Science Research facilitated by Dr. Zona Hildegarde S. Amper. Session 2 on Historical research was facilitated by Dr. George Emmanuel Borrinaga. Session 3 focused on Quantitative Research facilitated by Dr. Sonny Agustin Bechayda. Session 4 focused on Qualitative Research facilitated by Dr. Amper. The final session consolidated the outputs from previous sessions highlighting the Mixed Methods approach and putting together draft research proposals. It was a productive five weeks of discussions and brainstorming!
