SOLEMNITY OF SAINT JOSEPH
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Patron of the Universal Church
Titular of the DBTC Salesian Community
Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, the foster father or our Lord Jesus Christ and the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St. Joseph was born in Bethlehem and probably died in Nazareth. His important mission in God's plan of salvation was “to legally insert Jesus Christ into the line of David from whom the Messiah would be born, and to act as his father and guardian”.
Most of our information about St. Joseph comes from the opening two chapters of St. Matthew's Gospel. No words of his are recorded in the Gospels, thus he was called the "silent" just man. Saint Joseph is the patron of workers, husbands, travelers, immigrants, the sick, the dying, and for a happy death. He is considered as the mirror of patience, purity, and obedience, and the terror of demons. In 1870, Pope Pius IX declared him the principal patron and protector of the universal Church.
He is also the titular of the Salesian Community of DBTC.
Act of Consecration to Saint Joseph:
O dearest St. Joseph, I consecrate myself to your honor and give myself to you, that you may always be my father, my protector, and my guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for me a greater purity of heart and fervent love of the interior life. After your example, may I do all my actions for the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. O Blessed St. Joseph, pray for me, that I may share in the peace and joy of your holy death. Amen.
Saint Joseph, pray for us.
