โThe Filipino is worth dying for.โ ๐
Former Senator Benigno โNinoyโ Aquino Jr. was honored for his unconditional love for the Philippines and its countrymen through Republic Act No. 9256, declaring August 21 as โNinoy Aquino Dayโ and a non-working holiday.
In 1983 on the same day, Aquino returned to the Philippines after he underwent a heart surgery in the United States. Even though he was fully aware of the risks, he came home and was ultimately gunned down at Manila International Airport (now Ninoy Aquino International Airport).
Today, Aquino is remembered and a reminder to lead with a purpose, stand injustice, ask for accountability for the country and people. It is also to demonstrate patriotism, a core value of a Nationalian.
