HAZE ALERT

As of September 1, 2026 (Tuesday), Cebu’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is 152, indicating unhealthy air quality. The UP Cebu community is advised to take precautions to reduce exposure to haze and harmful particles.

To protect your health:
​- Stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed when possible.
​- Avoid outdoor activities, especially jogging and strenuous work, to reduce inhalation of harmful particles.
​- Wear a mask if going outside and use goggles or glasses to help prevent irritation from ash particles.
​- Monitor your health and watch for symptoms such as coughing, irritated eyes, or shortness of breath.
​- Stay hydrated and seek medical attention if you experience persistent or worsening symptoms.

Hazy conditions are currently being observed in Cebu due to smoke from the forest fire in Kalimantan, Indonesia.

This National Heroes Day, the University of the Philippines Cebu joins the nation in honoring those who gave their lives, their freedom, and the futures they might have lived so that generations after them could inherit a country worth building.

But remembrance is not enough.

Our heroes did not sacrifice so that we could remember them only through monuments, ceremonies, and speeches. Their sacrifice left us a responsibility. It asks what we have done with the country they fought for.
