Women have long fought for their rightful position in society. They took to the streets in a unified and determined manner, fiercely expressing their deeply held demands. This collective action was not merely a spontaneous outburst but an organized demonstration of their unwavering resolve. While the perception of women has evolved significantly, a barrier persist despite ongoing efforts to challenge and dismantle oppressive, discriminatory, and degrading forms of speech and conduct.
At present, women continue to face numerous forms of oppression and injustice across different parts of the world. In Afghanistan, womenโs rights have been severely curtailed, stripping them of the fundamental autonomy to make decisions for themselves. Many are now prohibited from attending school, choosing the clothing they wish to wear, pursuing employment, or exercising their right to refuse situations that may place them in harm. Such restrictions have significantly limited their freedom, opportunities, and participation in society. In Iran, the ongoing war has caused incidents of violence targeting schools attended primarily by young girls have resulted in tragic losses of life, further exposing the vulnerability of women and girls in environments marked by conflict and instability. Meanwhile, in our own country, the Philippines has also recently drawn public attention due to a series of vulgar, malicious, sexual, and degrading remarks directed at women by certain public officials, individuals who are expected to uphold the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism. These circumstances are only a few examples among the many injustices that women across the globe continue to confront today, underscoring the urgent need to protect womenโs rights, dignity, and equality in all aspects of society.
Therefore, the observance of Womenโs Day goes beyond honoring womenโs sacrifices, strength, and resilience; it also serves as an important opportunity to acknowledge the difficulties they continue to encounter and to highlight the issues that remain relevant in their lives. More than a day of recognition for womenโs contributions and efforts, Womenโs Day stands as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle to protect and advance womenโs rights, equality, and dignity in society.
To all women: we acknowledge your presence, we hear your voices, and we are committed to advocating for you.
