ASYNCHRONOUS CLASSES ONLY (OCTOBER 12)

Following the Cebu City LGU announcement, UP Cebu will adopt asynchronous classes tomorrow, October 12, due to very unhealthy air quality.

Classes shall shift to modular and alternative learning modes. Heads of administrative offices and units may also adopt flexible work arrangements pursuant to Memo. No. CLM 2025-033.

Face-to-face classes or online synchronous sessions shall be suspended.

Stay safe and monitor official UP Cebu channels for updates.

The University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons secured back-to-back victories after defeating the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 26 men’s basketball tournament on September 30 and October 2, respectively.

Weakened public systems and militarized governance under former President Rodrigo Duterte (2016–2022), rather than the COVID-19 pandemic alone, drove the Philippines into its worst economic crisis since Martial Law, according to Assoc. Prof. Jan Carlo B. Punongbayan of the UP School of Economics, during a book talk and forum at the Lawak Sinehan last September 26.

The UP Cebu University Library launches Project AKLAT, a book donation drive that aims to provide reading and learning materials to partner public elementary school libraries under the DepEd Cebu City Division.

Donations may be dropped off at the following locations:

The UP Cebu College of Social Sciences is exploring the adoption of the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Science Teaching Program from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, beginning Academic Year 2027-2028.

The proposed program responds to an urgent educational need. PISA 2022 showed that 84% of Filipino students were below minimum proficiency in mathematics and 77% in science. Moreover, functional literacy rates were only 67.6% in Central Visayas and 61.8% in Eastern Visayas, underscoring the need to strengthen the preparation of qualified mathematics and science teachers in the region (OECD, 2023; PSA, 2025).
