University of the Philippines Cebu UP Cebu is the premier higher education institution in Central Visayas. UP Cebu was established in 1918 as a satellite unit of UP Diliman.

The University of the Philippines Cebu (UP Cebu) is the oldest unit of the UP System among the campuses outside of Luzon. UP Cebu offers a diverse array of undergraduate courses and graduate studies which have produced alumni who have been recognized as leaders in the arts, journalism, management, politics and governance, human resource development, industrial relations, and development work. ebu envisions to significantly contribute to the development of the Central Visayas region through a constant produce of researches, higher education instruction and technical assistance. UP Cebu hosts the Regional Center of Expertise in sustainable education by the United Nations. NO FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES (SEPTEMBER 2-4)

Following the Cebu City LGU announcement, face-to-face classes at UP Cebu are suspended effective today, 02 September 2026 (Wednesday), starting 2:00 oโ€™clock in the afternoon until 04 September 2026 (Friday) due to hazardous air quality.

Classes shall shift to modular and alternative learning modes. Similarly, heads of administrative offices and units are granted discretion to adopt flexible work arrangements. Please refer to Memo No. CLM 2025-033: General Framework on Class Modality and Work Arrangement for more information.

The UP Cebu University Library officially launched its Fourth Annual Martial Law Literacy Month today, September 1, at the Faculty Nook of the library.

Held in collaboration with the Master of Arts in Communication and Media (MACM) Program, the month-long observance promotes awareness and understanding of the Marcosian Martial Law among the UP Cebu community.

Now on its fourth year, the initiative provides opportunities for students, faculty, and other library users to engage with curated books, audiovisual materials, original interviews, and other narratives on Martial Law. The Martial Law Literacy Corner, which will be open until September 30, features a specially curated collection of books and a dedicated iMac with headset for viewing and listening to selected audiovisual materials.

The month-long observance will also feature Story Discussions on September 9 and 16, and a Dramatic Reading of Nick Joaquinโ€™s โ€œPinoy Agonistesโ€ on September 30 at the Performing Arts Hall.

HAZE ALERT

As of September 1, 2026 (Tuesday), Cebuโ€™s Air Quality Index (AQI) is 152, indicating unhealthy air quality. The UP Cebu community is advised to take precautions to reduce exposure to haze and harmful particles.

To protect your health:
โ€‹- Stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed when possible.
โ€‹- Avoid outdoor activities, especially jogging and strenuous work, to reduce inhalation of harmful particles.
โ€‹- Wear a mask if going outside and use goggles or glasses to help prevent irritation from ash particles.
โ€‹- Monitor your health and watch for symptoms such as coughing, irritated eyes, or shortness of breath.
โ€‹- Stay hydrated and seek medical attention if you experience persistent or worsening symptoms.

Hazy conditions are currently being observed in Cebu due to smoke from the forest fire in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
