This is our last practice before the final rites. Every drop of sweat, every correction, and every sacrifice has led to this moment.

To all our applicants, trust your training, believe in yourselves, and give it everything youโ€™ve got. Remember that this journey is about more than proving your skillsโ€”itโ€™s about showing your dedication, discipline, and heart.

The first-ever Visayasโ€“Mindanao Drum and Bugle Competition, held at Gregorio Pelaez Sports Complex in Cagayan de Oro City, became a memorable milestone in our band's history.

The opportunity began when our band was invited by the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Chapter. During the second week of November, we received the official letter of notice informing us about the competition, leaving us with only one week to prepare.

Despite the limited time, everyone committed themselves wholeheartedly. Practices were held every day after classes at Cebu International Port (CIP), often lasting until 1:00 a.m., even though we still had to attend school the following morning. Every rehearsal reflected the dedication, discipline, and determination of every member.

For the exhibition performance (palabas), the late Alejandro โ€œAlโ€ Ramas and his colleagues were entrusted with creating the marching formations, showcasing their creativity and leadership. The presentation was further strengthened through a collaboration with the Boy Scouts and the Color Bearers, making the performance even more memorable. We would also like to remember the late Mr. Angelo Vega for his outstanding support, if it wasnโ€™t for him this event would be unsuccessful.

If you're wondering why the audience was booing during the performance, those who were there recalled that many spectators were experiencing a drum and bugle exhibition (palabas) for the very first time. The performance style was unfamiliar to them, leading to confusion and an unexpected reaction from the crowd.

As the audience became increasingly excited and began to surge toward the performance area, a fire truck was used to spray water in an effort to disperse the crowd and prevent further stampeding. Because of the commotion, the judges were no longer able to clearly view the remainder of the performance.

Although the preparation was short and the circumstances during the performance were unexpected, the experience became a testament to the band's resilience, teamwork, and passion. Decades later, this competition remains one of the most unforgettable chapters in our historyโ€”a story of dedication, perseverance, and a performance that left a lasting impression on everyone who witnessed it.
