GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT | Iranian taps wastewater researchers in Carmen as caravan’s last stop

Iranian water scientist Dr. Eskandar Poorasgari capped his Cebu academic caravan at Cebu Technological University (CTU) Carmen, engaging researchers and bringing the dialogue directly to their work on local wastewater conditions.

In an exit meeting with the Internationalization and ASEAN Integration (IAI) leadership yesterday, Dr. Eskandar said how such an encounter with Carmen proved particularly significant.

GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT | Carmen sits in fun-filled ASEAN caucus

Cebu Technological University (CTU) Carmen brought a lighter mood to its ASEAN caucus as students and faculty marked the 59th founding anniversary of ASEAN through a fun-filled exchange.

Carmen’s approach showed that regional conversations can remain meaningful while giving students space to enjoy the discussion.

The activity drew a warm response on the Internationalization and ASEAN Integration (IAI) page, where one student described it as wonderful to have the opportunity to listen and learn from the conversation.

GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT | Eng’g faculty pitches water, energy, AI studies to Taiwan HEI for long-term stint

A Taiwan research link could soon give Cebu Technological University engineering faculty a longer runway for work on water, energy, and artificial intelligence, as National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) moves to connect them with active research teams.

The talks followed the recent visit of Dr. Yu-Wei Chang, who delivered a lecture on the functional properties of seaweed at the university.

Engineering professors presented their current studies and research interests to Chang and sought possible matches with NTOU researchers.

GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT | Phase 2 of WGC-CTU summer school bared

The Western Galilee College (WGC) delegation wants a Phase 2 of its international summer school with Cebu Technological University, saying its one-week stint limited the time they could devote to lectures, classroom exchanges, and interaction with students.

The proposal came during a courtesy call with CTU OIC President Dr. Jonita Literatus and the Internationalization and ASEAN Integration (IAI) leadership, who agreed to the proposal.

For the second phase, the WGC team wants deeper instructional engagement with CTU students and faculty and extended time to develop the “profound” conversations, which to them formed a significant part of the exchange.

LOOK | Counseling services, mental health advocacy exhibited for COEd first year students

In light of the importance of the mental health and overall well-being of students, the Guidance Services Center - Day Program, alongside the Student Affairs and Services (SAS), conducted the final batch of suicide‑prevention awareness sessions for College of Education (CoEd) first‑year students on the afternoon of August 19.

Entitled "Guided to Thrive: Getting to Know the Guidance Services" and "Race to Save Lives: Empowering Minds Through Su***de Awareness and Prevention," the event offered insights into CTU’s mental health advocacy, which aims to strengthen support systems, identify early warning signs of emotional distress, and provide timely crisis intervention to help save lives.

SAS Dean Arch. Ann Frances P. Cabigon urged students to pursue academic excellence while safeguarding their own mental health and extending care to peers in need.

"Every second counts when life is at risk," she emphasized.

First-year students from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Computer, Information and Communications Technology (CCICT) at Cebu Technological University-Main Campus attended yesterday morning's Race to Life Orientation at CebuTech Gymnatorium.

The event advanced suicide‑prevention awareness among students by fostering open discourse, emphasizing the critical role of help‑seeking behaviors, and cultivating a supportive environment that fosters recognition, affirmation, and psychosocial safety.

During her talk, Guidance Associate Ms. Pearl Jane Bongcales emphasized the importance of attentiveness to one’s own feelings and those of others, cautioning against making assumptions.

"We notice and observe, but we do not label," Ms. Bongcales said.

She further reminded students of the importance of listening and offering emotional support.

"Not all people needs advice; they just want someone who can listen and whom they can express their emotion," she added.
