Violence against women and children (VAWC) is among the most pervasive issues in the Philippines, particularly within the countryโs marginalized communities. Rooted in systemic inequality, poverty, and deeply entrenched patriarchal norms, this issue manifests in various forms of abuse โ physical, emotional, and sexual. According to the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, 17.5% of Filipino women aged 15-49 have experienced any form of physical, sexual, and emotional violence from their intimate partners. Despite the enforcement of laws such as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 (RA 9262), many victims continue to encounter barriers in accessing legal support and essential resources to escape their situations and seek justice. This alarming reality underscores the urgent need for sustained interventions and community-based efforts to protect and support survivors.
The USC School of Arts and Sciences invites Carolinians to join us in this initiative of raising awareness and forming unities in Ending Violence Against Women and Children. ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ ๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ: ๐๐๐๐๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ is an activity will tackle the realities of Filipino women and children face and how we contribute to ending this cycle of abuse and oppression as members of the youth while making your cute bead-bracelets for free!
