Graduate School Leaves a Green Legacy Through Tree-Planting Activity

In celebration of academic achievement and environmental responsibility, the graduating students of the Graduate School of Cotabato State University conducted a tree-planting activity under the theme “Greening the Future: Growing Leaders for a Sustainable Future.”

The initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Armia K. Dilna, Dean of the Graduate School, and Dr. Marilyn Billones, Graduating Class Adviser. The activity was actively supported by the graduating class officers, students, and the various graduate school program heads who graced the event and demonstrated their commitment to environmental sustainability and student development. The initiative was conducted in partnership with the Office of Agri-Forestry and the Fisheries Development Center (AFFDC), further strengthening the university’s advocacy for environmental conservation and community engagement.

The Graduate School community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Sema G. Dilna, university president, for her unwavering support and visionary leadership. Special appreciation is likewise conveyed to the 6th Civil-Military Operations Battalion (6CMO Battalion) headed by Lt. Col. Ronald E. Sucano, INF (GSC), PA, for their invaluable assistance and partnership in making the activity a success.

More than a ceremonial event, the tree-planting activity symbolizes the graduates’ pledge to become responsible leaders and stewards of the environment. As the trees take root and flourish, they will serve as a living legacy of the Graduate School Class—reflecting growth, resilience, and a shared commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.

Cotabato State University (COTSU) expresses its sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) for the donation of one (1) unit solar-powered water pump—an important contribution that strengthens the university’s initiatives in sustainable agriculture, research, and community service.

The initiative reflects the strong leadership of Hon. ABDULRAOF A. MACACUA, Interim Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the support of MAFAR Director Dr. MOHAMMADTAHA S. PENDALIDAY in advancing agricultural innovation across the region. Under the leadership of University President Prof. Dr. SEMA G. DILNA, the university continues to build partnerships that promote food security, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development.

The project was initiated through the Office of the Agroforestry and Fisheries Development Center, led by Asst. Prof. RHANEST S. TILENDO, PFT. The solar-powered water pump is expected to enhance research, extension, and instruction by improving water access and supporting climate-resilient farming practices.

The turnover was witnessed by university officials, including Vice President for Research, Extension and Resource Generation Dr. TENG A. ALIM, Asso. Prof. John Allesa, Supply Officer, and Datu Paisal Usop, MAPD Director for General Services, underscore the value of collaboration in achieving sustainable progress.

This milestone highlights the power of partnership in delivering practical solutions and advancing community development in the Bangsamoro region.
