Understanding the profession begins with understanding the landscape it serves.

In 2023, the global nursing workforce reached approximately 29.8 million, yet the world still faced an estimated 5.8 million nursing shortage. These figures reflect both the scale of the profession and the continuing demands placed on healthcare systems worldwide.

For the Universidad de Dagupan School of Health Sciences, staying informed about these realities matters. Nursing continues to evolve beyond traditional bedside care, encompassing broader responsibilities in prevention, community health, leadership, advanced practice, and changing models of care.

Education in the health sciences must remain connected to the realities of the profession, grounded in evidence, responsive to change, and aware of the communities healthcare professionals are preparing to serve.

Because understanding healthcare today helps shape better healthcare tomorrow.
